Description:

1970 Pontiac GTO

1970 Pontiac GTO – Judge tribute

This GTO was sold new at Bendall Pontiac in Alexandria VA. From the looks of the body it must have spent is whole time in the South. This 242 VIN GTO came from the factory pretty much as you see it. It is my understanding that it had a partial restoration about 7 years ago. Most of the interior is original to the car. The odometer reads 24,100 miles plus or minus. That is believed to be 124,000 miles based on the condition of the mostly original interior (carpet has been replaced, the rest looks original).

The 400 runs and drives great and has good power. It’s a great cruiser. This GTO runs like it must has a long duration camshaft.I just installed a vacuum reservoir to assist with initial power braking stops as the cam does not develop a lot of vacuum at idle. From the casting number I can see the motor was from a 1977 car.It has a Speedmaster midrise intake manifold and a Holley Demon carburetor.

The car came new with factory SAFE-T-TRACK limited slip rear end, A/C, AM/FM radio and the vinyl top to mention a few options. All of these items are still with the car (the A/C compressor is not connected but comes with the sale). The top must have been replaced when the car was painted. It shows well and there isn't any evidence of rust repair.

The factory gauges (temp, oil, fuel and tach) don’t work. I didn’t get under the dash to see what is connected or what isn’t. There are after market gauges for volts, temperature and oil pressure that do work well. Lights all appear to work well as do the wipers. The radio that is in the car currently is a blue-tooth enabled retro type radio. I didn’t test it thoroughly, but it does come on and make sound. The original (removed) Pontiac AM/FM radio come with the sale as well as the original foot kick panels (that were replaced to have speaker type panels) at the foot wells. Thetrunk wing is not factory correct for this build, but it looks to be an original Pontiac piece, not a reproduction

This car is incredibly solid. It has a virtually rust free body. There are NO holes noted on the underside of the car and NO patches other than a couple small spots in the quarters behind the rear wheels. It's very solid. This GTO is an incredible foundation for an excellent future restoration or just drive it like it is an not worry about it all the time. The car has great bones, its not a rust bucket.

I made a comprehensive video where I go over the whole car, start it and drive it. Take the time to look at it:
