1949 Mercury Custom Chopped Sled Eight Rod Coupe

Listing this very cool 1949 Mercury chopped custom coupe. See all 268 photos and a video below this description before bidding.We had the luck of finding two Mercury's part of two different estates. The plan was to give this one to my father, but he feel in love with my other one so this one is going up for sale. It was found sitting for some time in a private collection. From what I was told it was last on the road many years ago, but it was tagged till 2018 when it was parked for good when the previous owner passed away. I was told the previous owner fully built the car and chopped it himself back in the late 1980's through the early 1990's. It has a four speed manual trans, and what I believe and was told a Cadillac 500 engine, see photos. It has disk brakes in the fron, and a upgraded front end, rear end, suspension, etc., see undercarriage photos. The doors and trunk work off of electronic poppers, but the door lock pulls are actually manual door poppers also. It has a Cadillac steering column that is telescopic and tilts. It does have power windows, power brakes, and power steering. It still looks beautiful in my eyes, but it does show its age. What we did to it was put on a set of Coker white walls bias tires, two new front brakes lines, replaced some of the rubber fuel lines, and added a electronic fuel pump. After that with a charge to its existing battery and a tank of non-ethanel gas she fired up for the two videos that are in this auction. I combined both videos together, the first after it was cleaned up, and the second the first time it was running again, see video below. I would still say it needs gone through before enjoying and taking it down the road as we only drove it around the block and the yard a few times. The car does show its age and is not perfect up close, as there is some paint chipping and bubbling, and half of the trunk top shows scratches, see the 268 photos below for everything. The paint looks to be a very dark metallic purple/marron color, and does look black in the shade or at night. The front drivers seat is powered to go forward and backward. So is the passenger seat but it was never hooked up, along with the power door antenna and spot lights. There is a title we were given for it that matches its vin plate perfectly.
