Vehicle Details1966 Chevrolet Chevelle ss 396 l78 possibly. Converted to l72 427/425 very early in life. Factory 4 speed car. Originally Madeira maroon with black bench seat interior. Car sold new at Jack Dankel chevy in Allentown, Pennsylvania. This dealer was one of the largest in the north and known for engine swaps and performance work. See the post card picture in the pics. This car was used as a street race car then drag strip car all of its life. Car is set up for big block Chevy and th400. Has a Dana 60 rear from a 1968 b body mopar. Rear is set up with ladder bars and track locator bar. 4:56 posi and drum brakes all the way around. Cragar super trick wheels all the way around. Car has a nicely done 6 point roll cage welded directly to the chassis. The chassis looks good and the rear frame work is neatly done. The stock rear frame rails were moved in to make room for the tires along with wheel tub work in the trunk. This car has the stock original dash and correct 4 speed steering column. Car had the factory knee knocker tachometer mounted on the dash originally. See the pic showing where the Tach mounted. Has Factory 4 speed pedals, Original Dash wiring harness still attached and looks decent. I will try to describe the body and rust issues now. The roof skin is straight, the front and back glass window channels will need work due to rust, the hood is original to the car and decent, hood has rust bubbling through on the front underside hood lip. Both front fenders are gm and appear decent with minor dings and scuffs. The driver door is gm and solid. The inner support panel was modified but I have another inner panel to go with it. The passenger door will need blasting and patches or replaced. Both rear quarter panels need replacing along with the rear panel. The trunk lid is shot and needs replaced. The trunk floor could be repaired with a partial pan, the floors will need partial pans as well or replace both half’s. The upper dash and dash insert are just sitting in the car for picture purposes. The upper dash part will need to be replaced. The dash itself is in good condition, solid, and original to the car. Car comes with original soft ray tint vent window glasses. All other windows are old lexan and need to be thrown out. Car has msd ignition system but very old and no guarantee it works. Tires are old! Left front tire leaks down, all others hold air. Comes with a drive shaft. There is no motor or transmission. This is a major project but a cool project. This car deserves to be brought back to life. Please see all pictures as they will show condition. This car will need complete restoration. This is a no reserve auction!
