1970 Mercury Cougar Hardtop 428

The car is finished in blue over black vinyl upholstery and is powered by a replacement 428ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. The car was optioned with the Drag-Pak Package when new, and additional features include power steering and front disc brakes, an AM radio, and high-back front bucket seats. This Cougar is now offered with a build sheet, a window sticker, service records, spare engine components. Cosmetic details include a blacked-out grille, retractable headlight covers, a hood scoop, a front lip spoiler, and a rear wing. Magnum 500-style wheels are fitted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. The car is equipped with power steering and KYB shocks, and braking is handled by discs up front and drums at the rear. The high-back bucket seats are trimmed in black vinyl, and Cougar-logo floor mats protect the color-coordinated carpeting. The car is also equipped with a Philco AM radio, a floor-mounted shifter, and manually operated windows. Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. Under 16k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, with true mileage unknown. The replacement 428ci V8 was installed during prior ownership in place of the factory Q-code 428 V8. Features include a ram air-style air cleaner, finned valve covers, and a dual exhaust system equipped with a crossover pipe. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed C6 automatic transmission, and aftermarket gearing has been fitted to the rear end. The car is equipped with a dual exhaust system, and the seller notes the presence of an exhaust leak. Additional photos are presented in the gallery below showing the suspension, chassis, and driveline, as well as corrosion on portions of the mechanical components.
