Imperial Crown Convertible needing restoration NO RESERVE
1962 Other Makes
Other Makes.1962 Imperial Crown Convertible. Rare one of 545 Convertibles made. Runs excellent. Rebuilt engine (original matching number engine) and transmission. Body needs restoration. The car is originally from the Boston area sold at Post Motors in Watertown, MA.It has all options with the exception of AC and the right-side remote mirror. Brakes job and rebuilt suspension in 201, power steering pump is missing so it’s the Armstrong brand of steering, This car is complete which is not easy to find with an Imperial of this vintage. I purchased the car 20 years near Bar Harbor Maine. It has it’s original Black Leather Interior. The original color of the car was Heather with a Black Convertible Top. (rare color combination) It comes with two Texas quarter panels off a Four Door Hardtop. The convertible top doesn’t function, and the power window motors are missing in the two doors. The rear power windows work fine. The fuel line seems to be clogged now from lack of use. (it did get a brand new tank in about 2012) It does run off a IV gas can. New Battery, Tires are about 10 years old but hold air.The car can move and drive, with brakes functioning and transmission. The Engine was rebuilt about 15 years ago and has about 2,000 miles on it since. I use to take the car to shows between 2010and 2018. The longest Trip I’ve ever made in the car was about 200 miles to my Folks home in Ma. The issue with the car is the body and quarter panels. The frame is solid and straight the rust is confined to the quarters and inner wheel wells in the rear. Obviously, this is rare, and they are desirable and restored they can go for 50 to 100K. You have a good building block here as the frame and drive train is done and the interior is very nice for it being original. There is a photo of the original convertible boot, it's hard to find a car with that. There are no cracks in the dash pad. To be clear, it’s a restoration project. I’ve enjoyed it over the years taking it to car shows but it’s been locked in a garage now since about 2018 due to me moving out of state and leaving it behind. So, I just don’t get to drive it any more. Looking for it to get into the right hands. This is a no reserve auction. You can raise and lower the top using again the Armstrong method. Gauges all work fine, but the radio doesn’t. A1961 Imperial LeBaron trunk lid was swapped outto this about 10 years ago, Most folks like the look of that spare on the trunk on this car, It really looks classy with the top up or down. The Flashlight tail lamps I think accentuate the spare tire lid. Due to health reasons I'm selling this car. I'm down to 20 cars and want to focus in on only a handful rather than a hoard.
