1927 Other Makes
MY GUESS IS if you take this 1927 Willys Knight to you local car show it will be the only one at the show. My guess is that it will be looked at more than the Camaros, MOPARs and Mustangs.HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A BETTER RADIATOR ORNIMENT!
WHAT IS IT? Its a 1927 Willys Knight 4 door sedan 66A Model. Lots of information on the Willys Knight company on the internet, Google it.
HOW IS THE BODY AS FAR AS RUST? In my opinion its about as good as you get, no rust bubbles in the paint, frame and underside rock solid. I see some very minor rust color spots on the bottom, but no rust holes or issues.
HOW IS THE PAINT? I consider it extra good. It has a good shine, I see no dents or dings, I see some minor touched up chips, mostly around the bottom of the hood where the latches are.
HOW IS THE INTERIOR? I consider it very good, no holes and no wear. Some of the edges are starting to fade just a very little, but its real nice interior.
HOW IS THE ENGINE? It a very different and cool engine. Its a inline 6 cylinder with sleeve valve seat up. I have read that this was very common in the day. It starts real good with a pop of the choke, it is still a 6 volt system with a new battery. The power is good for the day compared to a Model A Ford. I have heard that these engine smoked some and they do, I guess it was to lubricate the sleeve valve that fits around the piston, they move up and down to cover the intake and exhaust ports. This one does smoke on cold start and some all the time. It runs good and has not fouled plugs on me, just they way it is.
HOW IS THE TRANSMISSION? Its a 3 speed manual with not simonized. Its fine for me because I'm used to driving these old car. Double clutching helps. Clutch work good.
HOW ARE THE WINDOWS? Good, the only thing I see is a tiny crack in the rear/back glass in the corner. I didn't see it until I was cleaning the window.
GAS TANK IS NOT ORIGINAL, its a 11 gallon. The original comes with the car, but has a split and some rust in it.
HOW ARE THE TIRES AND WHEELS? Tires look new and the wheels are in excellent condition.
HOW DOES THE CAR DRIVE? For a 1927 car I would say it drives good, compared to todays cars it drive bad.
HEAD LIGHTS WORK! TAIL LIGHT WORK!FOG LIGHT AND COWL LIGHTS NOT WORKING!LIGHT SWITCH IS BAD AND A MODERN SWITCH ADDED!HORN WORKS! OIL GAUGE WORKS!OTHER GAUGES NOT WORKING!
HOW ARE THE BRAKES? They are mechanical brakes with linkages. They are not good, I drive it, but am very careful. Lubing, adjusting would help. On some past old cars I have taken the shoes and bands to a relining company in Chattanooga and they put a better lining material on.
SEVERAL PICTURES, hand crank and some other stuff come with the car.
DOES IT LEAK FLUIDS? Yes, old cars weeped and leaked on your nice clean floor.
I HAVE NOT INTEREST IN TRADING!!!!!!!!!!!
WHERE IS THE CAR LOCATED? Athens, Tennessee 37303. 50 miles north of Chattanooga and right on interstate 75.
TEXT ME FOR A VIDEOS: My name is Ron Watson, I'm 76 years old. I was a Army Chinook helicopter mechanic and crew chief in the late 60s. I taught auto mechanics for several years after the Army. I retired 20 years ago to play with these old cars.My cell is 423-506-8987
PLEASE NO SUNDAY CALLS, you can text or ask questions. Sunday is to worship, rest and spend time with the family.
BOTTOM LINE: This is a rock solid car, paint and interior good, runs good, smokes some, brakes not good and a few thing don't work. Its nice but not a car to roll out of the trailer at the car show, its a super nice upper end driver.
