1950 Other Makes Pacemaker Deluxe
In 1950, Hudson was building cars with a "step down" design for the body and chassis that was ahead of its time. It offered greater passenger comfort, better handling and improved safety. Ultimately almost all U.S automakers would embrace it and build cars that way. Beyond the engineering, the body of This Pacemaker Deluxe cuts a classic line and is a nicely restored example of one of these groundbreaking cars. Presented in Jefferson Green Metallic, this car is classy. People notice when it rolls in to an event or up to a restaurant. It leads with lots of chrome. There is a big 'ol hood ornament with wings just over the Hudson coat of arms on the peak of the grill supported on its own triangle. Four horizontal bars spill over onto the edges of the fenders and a massive chrome bumper with four vertical uprights underlines it. The fenders lead with chrome trimmed headlights and have their own "fender ornaments" complimenting the one on the hood. There are chrome rain guards on the windows and smooth body lines flow back to rear fenders that cover the rear tires tucked neatly underneath them. The roofline slopes down dramatically after providing plenty of headroom for back seat passengers. Silver rocker trim runs front to rear giving the car an even lower appearance and Hudson in script appears in the center of the trunk lid between beautifully styled taillight assemblies while a simple rear bumper ties the look together nicely. Open the door and you will be welcomed into a comfortable interior that is classic 1950s and beautifully restored. It is dressed in three tone green with the two-tone painted dash complimented by two tone vinyl and cloth seats, carpet and headliner. The door panel has a light green cloth insert just under a painted dark top edge, is underlined by a chrome armrest, and surrounded by dark green vinyl. The front seat is a split bench that is upholstered in light green cloth and is super comfortable! A large three spoke steering wheel surrounds a chrome horn ring with a large coat of arms in the center. It is mounted on a chrome column that also holds the shifter for the 3-speed manual transmission. The dash layout is wonderful in its 1950s splendor with a speedometer that matches the clock in design and will make you do a double take. An AM radio sits between them and there is a Pacemaker plaque on the glove box. The engine and drivetrain on this car received as much attention as the body and interior during the restorations, so open the hood and check it out. There you will find a stock engine bay that is extremely clean with a 232 cubic inch 6-cylinder engine nestled down inside it. This 232 was introduced in 1950 specifically for the Pacemaker and is the correct engine for this car. A black air filter assembly sits on top of a single barrel carburetor and black intake manifold. The rest of the engine is painted orange and the spark plugs sprout out of the top of the cylinder head in a neat row. The front suspension is a control arm setup with coil springs with the very nice feature of disc brakes and a solid axle riding on leaf springs gets the job done in the rear. Tires are white wall 225/75R15s all around mounted on steel wheels with beauty rings and hub caps. Ahead of its time and a reminder of days gone by. This Hudson Pacemaker is shining example of both. Come on down and take a look for yourself.Vehicle Details:
