This is an early cageless midget race car, probably dating from the mid 1930's. This car would be a perfect candidate to be built for the TROG or Hot Rod Hill Climb events. Included are some extra chassis components and 2 V8-60 engine cores. I've seen some books which talk about these early midget race cars and show that many different drivetrain combinations were used; of course Ford V8-60's, but also Chevrolet 4 cylinders, Ferguson tractor engines, outboard motors etc. I have no idea of what powered this particular car. Wheelbase is approximately 78 inches. The fuel tank sits behind the seat, the dashboard holds 2 gauges and the 12inch wire wheels are like nothing I've seen before.
This is an early example, I'm told, due to the lack of a headrest bubble on the back/top of the body, which began to be added just before WWII and found on almost all midgets after the war. The steel body itself seems to be professionally made; the fairing and bead rolls seem factory. But that's it. Everything else is obviously low buck and crudely fashioned. I got the car from the owner of an antique store and have ZERO knowledge of any history that this car may have.I know absolutely nothing about midgets, circle track racing etc..The white color appears to be spray bomb and no way original to the car. There is black paint under the white. Bill of Sale only. Mileage and title info appearing in the auction is incorrect but required by Ebay for listing purposes.
Please, if anyone has additional info or wants to correct anything I've written here ... do so. I want toaccurately describe what I'm selling with no confusion or controversy, and I know there are many who know a lot about these early racers. Let me know please!
