Ransom Eli Olds was successful in selling his Curved Dash Oldsmobile, but when he resisted dropping it in favor of a more modern, expensive automobile he was forced out of his own company. Unable to use the Oldsmobile name, he started a new company using his initials. In August of 1904, Ransom E. Olds founded the Reo Company. The REO Company manufactured automobiles and trucks from 1905 through 1936. In 1907, it was one of the top four automobile manufacturers in the United States, based on sales. After 1908, the demise of the REO Company began due to competition from Ford and General Motors. (Written BY owner) I have for auction a 1910 REO model D Touring car that I have owned for over 20 years. It is ready for a total restoration. The engine is a 2- cylinder opposed, 20–22 H. P. With a 2- speed planetary transmission. The engine is mid-mounted in the frame and is a chain drive to the differential. The gas and coolant tanks are mounted under the hood. I think this has always been a 2 passenger car because of the 1/4 turn fasteners on the back of the seat, to attach a buggy-style top. A pick-up box was often added by the owner back in the day. The control linkage clevises and pins all appear to show no wear which would indicate the car was not driven a lot. There was no serious rust putting on the chassis, the radiator is stacked together in sections with rubber washers between the sections. The sections need to be refinned and new fins are included. The hood on the car in the pictures is from an earlier model REO. I have a new correct hood. Also, notice the 4 new fenders. The front wheel rims pictured on the car are incorrect, but the correct 25" Goodyear detachable rims are pictured in the parts. Tire size should be 32x3 1/2. Some work on the new fuel and coolant tanks has been done. The water jackets on the cylinders have been correctly repaired by Cast Iron -Rod/ Gas welded. The pistons pictured are oversized and need to be fitted to the cylinders. The exhaust is a copy of the original and needs to be fitted and installed. As I mentioned, the car needs a total restoration. The parts that I don't have are: Piston rings Lower Seat cushion 2 wheel lock rings Coil box top lid and key (National Coil Box) Top irons Radiator fill cap/neck Exhaust cut-out * There may be some things I have overlooked * Please study the photos of the parts closely, I have no other parts for the car that are not pictured. If you have any questions please feel free to call or email at any time.
