Description:

1973 Opel Standard

Here's a 1973 Opel GT. Found at a Pa. auction. Last owner had intentions of restoring and after sitting for 2 years had a change of mind. The car is a project for restoration. It can likely be a driver without complete restoration. Body is basically solid. Obvious damage is shown. Left side has rot on the outside sheet metal, lower fender, rocker and quarter in front of the wheel. Quality steel can be patched with the right fabrication skills. In my opinion, the rear could be pulled and repaired. Doors & windows operate as they should. Floors are solid. Interior is not the worst you'll find. Cleaned up would make it useable. Seats could be recovered; dash pad has cracks. & console needs attention. Don't know what works or doesn't haven't had it running long enough. Gauges reacted with a battery connected and key on. I haven't tried accessories or lights. Mechanically, it's a good base. Odometer reads 80,000 miles. I believe it to be original, not flipped. Gas tank stinks. Don't know how much is in it. Engine by is dirty but not oiled up or caked with grease. I connected a battery & cleaned the points. With the key on got power to the coil, jumped the starter while spraying starter fluid. It started and ran as long as I sprayed. Ran it long enough to say it runs strong with no noise to suspect issues. It has a 4 speed. Shifter moves. Clutch operates> Can't say more without it running. In my opinion, the car is worth the restoration. I bought it on an online bid, expecting that to be the case and it has not disappointed. Currently I have 2 other project cars. If this sits, I'll get to it. I buy and sell. So, it's up for sale, as is..Car has a clean transferrable Pa. title. Delivery possible, depending on location and selling price.
