1955 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight

It’s time to find MY BABY a new home. Here is a mostly all original, highly desirable, top-of-the-line Series 98 Holiday 2-door hardtop, a mechanically reliable well-maintained older frame-on restoration. She’s a daily driver, not a trailer queen. Bought her during the pandemic after a 30-year dream of owning one. With two teens headed to college, I did not know what I was thinking, call it an impulse buy because, well, she’s so irresistibly gorgeous. Loaded from the factory with power everything: steering, brakes, windows, seats, as 98s are, even with the rare Autronic-Eye.
A pair of matching fender skirts and all literature photographed are included, but the custom license plate is not.
The numbers-matching drivetrain features the 324 “Oldsmobile Rocket” 202 horsepower V8 paired with a 4bbl Rochester and the diehard Hydramatic transmission on its last year before troublesome Jetaways. There are no major leaks.
The odometer reads 24,165 miles, but most likely it’s 124,165. All gauges and electrical systems work well, but the power seat, clock, and radio do not.
Chrome and stainless are in good shape, the body is straight, repainted to a non-factory turquoise color, was originally Glen Green over polar white. The paint job could have been better in my opinion.
Zero rust anywhere, and according to the previous owner she spent most of her life in Minnesota, always garaged. The frame and undercarriage were coated for extra protection.
The interior has been tastefully redone to the original look and feel with textured fabric. The dash pad is original, with signs of age. The headliner and vizors are original and in good condition. Power windows all work, some slower than others.
There are cosmetic imperfections, mostly overlooked details during restoration, rattles and clicks when the road is imperfect, that I haven’t had a chance to address and fix.
Hemmings Motor News describes it best: “They were some of the most desirable hardtop models of the 1950s, with brawny styling and a distinctively fashioned side trim in the shape of a knife that separated the exterior's front and rear with a striking two-tone color scheme. If ever a car stood out among the masses with an identifying appeal, the 1955 Oldsmobile was it.”
Took me decades to find her, and I’m sad to see her go, hopefully to a lucky next owner who will cherish her equally.
Listed locally as well, so I have the right to end the auction early. Can be seen in Petaluma, CA and buyer is responsible for picking up or shipping.
