1971 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 Convertible Recreation

1971 Nordic Blue Paint Code 24 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme/442 W-30 Convertible Recreation with a 4-Speed being sold with "No Reserve" I'm having issues uploading the last of the pictures. As soon as all 24 pictures are showing the opening bid will be dropped to a mere $2000. Sorry for the delay!
This Oldsmobile up for auction was just made to look like the unique very expensive W-30 convertible for an affordable price. This sale is just in time to buy your Dad the car he always wanted for Christmas. If you had a cool Dad back in the 1970's then you had the cool Dad on the block. I'm sure all the real Olds guys out there knowhowhard it is to find an original Paint Code 24 Nordic Blue convertible at a reasonable price nowadays. Especially with a 4-Speed!! I don't know too many Olds guys who don't want one of these cars with a 4-Speed. The picture towards the end of the picture section was shown to let every bidder know what they can have if this car is repainted the original Nordic Blue color combination.
If you simply double click on the main picture of the auction page then all 24 pictures will be able to be viewed in the larger size by clicking the arrows on each side of the larger pictures.
This is the first time this Olds is ever being offered to the public on eBay. I will explain everything I found out from the previous owner at the point of purchase. According to the gentleman from Colorado that sold me this cool convertible he had owned it for the past 16 years and only drove it in the summer on nice days. He had this Rocket engine completely rebuilt a couple years ago and rarely driven after that. I opened up the valve covers and saw the new push rods, and rocker arms. The heads were also redone when the engine was rebuilt. The alternator was replaced and both the top and the bottom radiator hoses were replaced along with new belts. The brakes were all completely done including a new power brake booster, new master cylinder, new rotors, new calipers, a new proportioning valve with new brake lines. These power front disc brakes stop on a dime. The previous owner also replaced all the inner and outer tie-rods along with the wheel bearings and bushings. He said all the front suspension was brand new. The clutch was all redone and shifts great in all four gears. With all the money spent on the mechanicals and suspension was the main reason I wanted to keep this one for myself. This Rocket starts right up and really sounds sweet with the full straight dual exhaust. It was covered and stored in his garage when not in use.
He decided to change the original Nordic Blue color to White with Gold W-30 striping. Why he chose to do that is beyond me. Code 24 Nordic Blue with a black convertible top and black bucket seats is an extremely rare color combination in 1971, and to have one with a 4-Speed is very rare. My intention was to keep this one for myself and change this convertible back to the original color combination as verified by the data plate.
Since I was going to keep this one for myself the clean and clear Wisconsin title is in my name. It just shows in the corner that it was previously titled in Colorado. According to the 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible production numbers that I looked up online there were only 1304 made in 1971. I couldn't find how many of those were 4-Speeds, but I do remember hearing some years back that only 293 4-Speed convertible's were made in 1971 making this true 4-Speed even more super rare.
The floors are all in nice condition from everywhere I looked, but the carpet could probably use a replacement to bring this convertible up to the next level. A brand new set of four deluxe black carpeted floor mats were placed on the floors this week in preparation for this sale. The interior looks in relatively nice condition as shown in the pictures. The front bucket seats were professionally reupholstered this past month, so they should be nice and comfortable for many years to come. The back seat is also in very nice condition. All the seat belts are still present for a family of five, so a great convertible like this can be enjoyed by the entire family at the local drive-in movie theater.
The 1971 442 grilles are original genuine GM 442 grilles, not aftermarket reproductions. I'm a huge 442 fan andI've done many of these convertible's over the years,so Iknow howvery satisfying and rewarding the finished product can be. I'm selling this convertible as a daily driver type quality car that could really use a nice paint job. The white paint work on this car is a poor attempt by an amateur at best, so the body clearly needs to be professionally done and brought back to the original Nordic Blue.
The nominal amount of money invested along the way of the restoration process will only add tremendous value to this car. Theseearly 70's muscle cars have incredible investment potential, and have been referred to as rolling bank accounts. Remember, When the top goes down, the price goes up! When there is a 4-Speed and the top goes down the price goes way up!!
The newer black convertible top still appears in good shape with no rips, and it does go up and down very nicely through the original switch in the dash. This auction is just in time to buy that muscle car convertible to do a nice quality paint job over the upcoming winter months, so you can be ready for top down cruising in style by this coming spring or summer. When these cars are done properly they command big dollars if the new owner ever decides to sell.
The majority of these parts arenow readilyavailable at a wide variety of new aftermarket muscle car parts suppliers of identicalreplacement parts. This dash was never cut up like was typicallydone tothese cars back in the day to fit aftermarket stereo's. The original AM radio and a factory clock are still in their proper place, but I do not believe they are hooked up.
This Convertible rides on a set of four like new B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A 14" inch 70's on Super Stock I wheels withall four bolt on center caps, all fourbeauty trim rings, and chrome lug nuts. The original trunk floor was coated with AC Delco black and aqua spatter spray to make it appear factory correct. The trunk does carry a full size Super Stock I spare wheel with the same size B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A as the set of four on the car. In the event of a flat tire, since there is an original jack, jack stand, bumper mount, and crow bar that mishap can turn into a complete looking car again in a matter of minutes.
All of the chrome I would consider in decent to nice condition, or in drivers quality condition. In fact there aren't reallyany hard to find chrome pieces that I can think of that might be missing. What you see is exactly what you get!
These mostly complete older classics that have survived for nearly 50 years are becoming harder and harder to find. Especially in Code 24 Nordic Blue!!
The Nada Classic Car Price Guide currently has the 1971 OldsmobileCutlass Supreme Convertible with a 4-Speed listed at $39,600 in high condition, which theyconsider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices.
They have the average condition valued at $19,920, which theyconsider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a20-Footer!
They have the lowest condition value at $13,560being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car, but would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration.
I follow all of the classic muscle car values on a regular basis and the Nada numbers don't lie! This Classic Oldsmobile Convertible being with a 4-Speed is a very valuable classic muscle car if it is given the proper fresh coat of Nordic Blue paint. Why not enjoy watching your money grow while you increase the value of your investment. When these cars go to live auctions and run on a Star Car Saturday at the Mecum Auctions or on a Super Car Saturday at the Barrett-Jackson Auctions they can bring some serious return on your investment.
Bottom line is the new owner could probably take this car over to their local Maaco and have a nice Nordic Blue paint job put on it with the black W-30 stripes and have themselves a $35.000-$40,000 looking car right away. This Oldsmobile is an investment that I believe will continue to rise as these cars have been consistently proven to escalate in value. These GM A-Body muscle cars are the finest handling cars I have ever driven.
This car is for the guy or girl that always wanted one back in high school, or had one and wants to paint one instead of paying the crazy prices to purchase one with fresh paint. This would be a great father and son project or for a high end classic car restoration shop that knows the values of these cars when they are freshened up. There is no finer muscle car on the planet in my eyes than the 1970-1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme or442convertible.
