1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst/Olds Tribute

In the late '60s, Olds forged a multi-year partnership with aftermarket performance icon Hurst to create special edition, enhanced performance versions of their muscle car, but by the time that partnership entered the early '70s, very few of them were produced and most of those have long since departed the road - as you can imagine, the remaining specimens would be astronomically expensive. This 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst/Olds Tribute captures the magic of that pivotal model and, after receiving restorative... attention at the hands of the pros at Then and Now Restorations, has been lightly used, well cared for and garage kept, so its curb appeal remains very much on a par with its outstanding running condition. Just as its original inspiration was dressed back in its day, this '72 wears a white exterior bearing quite an array of high impact reflective gold ornamentation. Accents run along the rocker panels before ascending upward and doubling back to the doors, with additional broad stripes decorating both the accurate 442-style hood and the deck lid in back with its color-matched spoiler. The paint scheme was faithfully recreated a while back and because of the attentive care and shelter this classic has received, is in great condition, with a strong shine from front to back, and both the precisely placed commemorative Indy Pace Car and Hurst decals still look razor sharp. Should you encounter darkening skies while on the road, the white vinyl convertible top powers into position without a hitch, and while it does show some wear, it stands very capable of providing shelter and even carries a nice, clear glass window in back. The entire interior was refurbished to original factory specs and has held up really well - both the front buckets and rear bench seat look downright awesome as they straddle a center console that looks pretty much as fresh as it did when new, and the collection of woodgrain accents are all in very good shape. A thickly padded steering wheel sits on the tilting column, and just beyond it the dash is another high point, with its instrument panel sporting clear, functional gauges and a level, crack-free dash pad spanning the width of the cabin. Below, the carpeting lining the floor still has its deep black color and to the sides, the kick panels have been upgraded to facilitate aftermarket speakers - their current vacancies will allow you to finish off the AM/FM stereo system as you see fit. Just as with the original models, you'll find accurate Hurst/Olds badging featured on the glove box door. Both the 455 cubic inch V8 sitting under the hood with its Moroso air cleaner and chrome valve covers, and the 4-speed automatic transmission behind it were rebuilt during the restoration and have seen very limited use ever since, so this drivetrain is as fresh as can be. It definitely performs like it, as the engine carries plenty of power that's evident with just a tap on the accelerator and the transmission is shifting very smoothly. While leaf springs were still pretty common during its era, this Olds features coil springs in back, so it offers a quiet ride, with no binding around corners, and its smooth power steering makes for easy navigation. Power brakes that feature discs up front bring its set of ultra-sharp, 14" gold Oldsmobile wheels to prompt, fade resistant stops. This 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst/Olds Tribute is an outstanding recreation of a special chapter in automotive history, and its combination of outstanding curb appeal, strong running condition and open-air configuration makes for an exhilarating driving experience.
