1971 Oldsmobile 442 Special Ordered Bittersweet W-30
1971 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 Original Code 62 Bittersweet selling at "No Reserve" This Oldsmobile up for auction is the perfect classic muscle car to enjoy the rest of the summer into thefall weather. If you have been looking for a beautiful classic that you can instantly become a fan favorite at the local car shows in your area or you would like to use this sweet Bittersweet beauty as a daily driver then thisrare W-30 may have your name on it! These 1970's muscle cars have incredible investment potential, and have been referred to as rolling bank accounts. It is becoming increasingly harder and harder to find a Bittersweet 442 with white stripes with each passing year. Everyone who knows these cars know this color and interior combination is extremely hard to come by, since it is a special ordered intermediate color combination. Especially with the elegant looking Sienna interior. This 442 W-30 originally came from the factory ordered as paint code 62 Bittersweet as verifiedon the data plate. The genuine GM 1971 442 grilles are in very nice condition. The complete dual exhaust is like new and includes the infamous chrome trumpet exhaust tips running out the rear cut-out back bumper. This car sounds wicked to say the least. Under the hood still possesses the original red fender wells. I have a Affidavit of Authenticity dated February 5th 1980 notarized from the previous owner that this is a true W-Car!! The title that comes with the car is from Oklahoma that proves the past owner has owned this rare beauty since 1980.
The entire interior still shows in very nice condition as seen in the pictures. The original dash pad is in very nice shape, and I couldn't find any cracks anywhere.Fortunately this dash was never cut up like was typicallydone tothese cars back in the day. The original AM/FM Stereo fits nicely in place with the factory ordered 8-Track player mounted directly under the center of the dash board. The front bucket seats and rear seats were recently reupholstered with new padding, so they should be nice and comfortable for many years to come. All the seat belts are present for a family of five, so the drive-in movie theater can be enjoyed by the entire family.
Some of the many new items that were replaced on this true W-30 are new upper and lower radiator hoses, new 195 thermostat, and gasket, plus all new belts including the air conditioning belt. The a/c belt is hooked up but several parts will need to be added to make the air blow ice cold one again. It was very rare to have the air conditioning option on a true W-30. This is also a cruise control car. Another of the rare options ordered on an Oldsmobile back then. I've never had the cruise entirely hooked up to function, but several parts are included to possible make the cruise control work. The power brake booster and master cylinder are both new as well. A new foam seal was added to the genuine GM air cleaner and yes, the flapper door is actually hooked up and works nicely. Many of these W-30's never bother to even hook up the most awesome air cleaner ever made correctly.
ThisOlds was factory ordered with power steering, power front disc brakes, power windows, cruise control, factory AM/FM Stereo, factory under dash 8-Track Player, dual sport mirrors, five Super Stock I sport wheels, 442 sport steering wheel, and tinted glass. The wipers work on both speeds. All thehead lights, bright lights, all four tail lights, all four brake lights, all four turn signals, all four cornering lights, emergency flashers, andeven the license plate light all work as they should.
The engine was pulled and detailed. I tried to place all of the original factory decals in the engine compartment and under the trunk lid, so this Bittersweet beauty would appear as close to the was it did when it rolled out of the factory on to the show room floor back in 1971. The front and the rear floor pans are the originals and have never been replaced. I've never had the car up on a lift, but in my opinion from looking under the car at the frame with this W-30 being an Original Oklahoma car the entire undercarriage still appearsin extremely nice condition. The Sienna carpeting is brand new, and sports a pair of very expensive plush carpeted floor mats in a super hard to find near matching color as the actual carpet.
This Olds rides ona like brand new set of four Super Star Radial GT 14" inch raised white lettered steel belted radial tires mounted on Super Stock I wheels with all fourbolt-on center caps, all fourbeauty trim rings, and all 20 chrome lug nuts. There is a 12-bolt posi-traction rear-end believed to be original to the car. The original trunk flooris in very nice condition and was recoated with black and aqua AC Delco spatter sprayto make it appear factory correct, sothe trunkshould stay in nice condition for many years to come. The trunkcarries a full size matching Super Stock I spare wheel with a less than perfect matching Super Star spare tire withthe originaljack, jack stand, bumper mount, and crow bar all nicely detailed.
I saw no signs of this car ever being involved in an accident. The suspensionlooks to be in very good condition. This Oldsreally sits up awesome with the proud stance of a true 442 W-30. According to the OldsFaqs website that anyone can look up online I'm pretty sure it mentioned that only 1304 442 W-30 models were made in 1971. What you see is exactly what you get! These mostly complete older classics that have survived for over 40 years are becoming harder and harder to find.
The Nada Classic Car Price Guide currently has the 1971 Oldsmobile 442 with air conditioning, the Rocket 455/335 horsepower engine, and W-30 package listed at $81,780 in high condition, which theyconsider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices.
Nada has the average condition valued at $53,940, which theyconsider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. Nada says an average condition car is considered a20-Footer! I would consider this Bittersweet real W-30 much better than a 20-foot classic!!
The Nada numbers don't lie! This Classic Iconic 442 W-30 Muscle Car is a very valuable automobile. It's a true W-CAR!!!!!!
A great deal of time, money, and effort went into bringing this classic muscle car back to its former glory. This car is for the guy or girl that used to have one back in high school and would like to relive their youth or show everyone at their high school reunion how cool they still are. It may just be the perfect car for someone who simply wants to treat themselves to a classic muscle car and enjoy their money while it increases in value.
This Oldsmobile is an investment that I believe will continue to rise as these cars have consistently shown to escalate in value each quarter.
