1962 Olds 98 Town Sedan with Protect-O-Plate Rust Free Original Classic
1962 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Town Sedan
This auction is for my 1962 Oldsmobile 98 Six Window Town Sedan. The car is rust free, and has been in Arizona since January 1977 (it was bought new in Nashville, TN).The drive-trainis original, and the car is complete. Sky Rocket 394/4V, 4S Hydra-Matic Transmission, 3.23 rear axle (open). The car starts/stops, runs/drives with no smoke. I have not driven it outside the neighborhood, so it's mechanically untested on a long trip.
The interior is original and very presentable. The sun visors, and headliner are perfect. Seats shoe no excessive wear, however the seat foam has dried out. The carpet looks great, and all the interior chrome is in excellent condition. The trunk looks as if it was barely used. The trunk carpet is in really nice shape. I upgraded the original black steel wheels from 14" to 15", and put new 215/75/R15 tires on it. The car does come with the original bumper jack (not in pics). The two pieces of trim not on the car are safe in the trunk. I just need to locate the clips to reattach them.
I have the Oldsmobile Owner Protection booklet (protect-o-plate)verifying all numbers match. The original owner installed a trailer hitch, and transmission cooler in 1977 when he moved to AZ. The cooler probably saved the transmission... because the car still shifts perfectly.
The car was parked in the late 70's, and used only occasionally after that. I have registration/insurance renewals dating back to the 1970's... the 2002 sticker never made it on to the license plate, so it may not have been used at all after '02. I changed the brakes, wheel cylinders, wheel bearings, fuel lines, starter, belts, hoses, and thermostat. The carburetor was rebuilt at some point before I got it, but could use an adjustment. All replacement parts I installed are Delco (with receipts).
There is still work to be done to make the car a driver, but a lot of the difficult work has been done. It still needs a tune up, and fluids changed. I have everything needed to complete the tasks except for time. I also have a new hood insulation which I will install (if I have time).
Some of the car's accessories work, others do not. The radio works, the horn doesn't. The headlights/taillights work, the air conditioning, and fan blower do not. The dash lights, glove box, courtesy, trunk lights all work, but the cigarette lighter, clock, and wipers do not. The power steering gearbox has a leak (no other leaks).
In 1962, Oldsmobile manufactured a total of 447,594 cars.Only 12,167 were Town Sedans. When was the last time you saw one? It's a nice classic family cruiser. Within a weekend the car can become a really nice cruiser again. I don't have time to get it to the next level... I have cars that don't even run (yet).
Please email questions. I'll do my best to answer them. The title is clear, and in my name. $500 pay-pal deposit required within 24 hours. The car must be paid for within 7 days, and picked up within 30 days. Car is sold as is where is.
