1992 Oldsmobile 98 Regency Elite - Super clean and reliable - Cold AC - Garaged
1992 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Elite
Up for sale I have a 1992 Oldsmobile 98 Regency Elite. I am selling this car for my elderly mother who cannot drive anymore. My parents purchased the car in 1995 at a local Oldsmobile dealer at that time so they were the second owners. The car has been garaged its entire life. Because of that, the car is clean, clean, clean! My parents always maintained the car very well and most of work done to it was at a dealership.Otherwise, it was maintained at Harold's Auto Center on U.S.19 in Spring Hill. There have been many new parts put in over the years. Radiator, water pump, alternator, serpentine belts, brakes, batteries, tune-ups, and regular oil changes, etc. Car gets great gas mileage, about 20 around town and up to 30 highway.
The car has automatic transmission, PS, PB, power windows, power door locks, power leather seats and keyless entry. It has a 3.8 liter V6 engine and its front wheel drive. It has 132,857 original miles on it. The engine starts right up and runs great. The transmission shifts properly and the car goes down the road strait and stops strait. The tires have lots of tread, around 85% left. The car has cold AC! There is an original AM/FM cassette player and the cassette player still works! There is also an aftermarket JVC Compact Disc Changer mounted in the trunk. It hasn't been used in many years so I don't know if it still works. It was still working fine when my dad passed in 2004. My mom didn't know how to operate it so I took all the CD's out of it back then.
The whole car is in remarkable condition for its age. Literally, it's a little old ladies car. The interior is very clean. No cracks or warping of the dashboard and the headliner is in great shape, no tears in the seats. The body and paint is in very nice condition. Paint still has a nice shine. There are a few scratches here and there that have been touched up. There is a slight dent on the right front door near the door handle where a guy on a bicycle hit it but it's hardly noticeable.
The car is not perfect but super nice. With just a little bit of TLC, it could be a show car. Of course, these types of cars are not typically what you see at car shows but that can give you an idea of the condition. Otherwise, this car would be clean, comfortable, reliable, (and cheap) transportation. I wasn't able to get a picture of the trunk area but its very clean like the rest of the car. Original spare tire.
There are some small things that are wrong with it. They are very minor and they can easily be fixed or just left alone. Just want to described as best I can so you know exactly what flaws there are.
1. The cruise control is inoperative. I don't know why it doesn't work and I haven't tried to troubleshoot. It could possibly be something as easy as a burnt fuse.
2. The right front door will not lock from inside or outside. When the door was hit by a bicycle, the door handle was broken. The door handle was replaced. At some time later, the linkage for the lock mechanism came off. The inside door panel will have to come off to repair it. It would be an easy fix for someone that is handy with cars or a repair shop could fix it for probably less than $100.
3. The power antenna for the radio is inoperative and the antenna is bent. It sticks up about 12-15 inches. The radio still works fine and radio stations come in. Antenna can be replaced with a fixed antenna for around $20.
4. The cigarette lighter / power outlet is not working. Again. I don't know why. It could just be a fuse.
5. The right rear tire has a very slight slow leak. I have taken it to a tire shop and they said they could not find the leak. They put sealer on the beads of the wheel rim and it got better but tire still leaks down over time. It loses about 10 psi over a one month period of time.
6. Occasionally, vehicle information center (VIC)on the dash will pop up a notice that says "pass key malfunction". But, there really is no malfunction. I think it may be doing that because the teeth on the keys are worn or the ignition lock cylinder may be worn. Not sure. It has been that way for years and years. Repair shop told my mom long ago not to worry about it and to ignore it.
7. Engine could probably could use an oil change. I think the oil only has maybe 1500 miles on it but it has been in the engine a long time. I would change it before taking any long road trips or putting the car back into daily driving. The car has hardly been driven in the past two years. The battery was on a battery tender though to keep it charged up. Transmission fluid is bright red as it should be.
That's it, I don't know of anything else wrong with the car,
As I said, the car would be clean, comfortable, and reliable transportation. I would not hesitate to drive this car cross country!
Clean and clear original title in-hand. Car comes with two remotes and sets of keys.
$2500 cash takes it! Cars like this don't come up for sale very often. Please no low-ball offers. See the NADA values in the pictures. An "average retail" vehicle is described by NADA as a "twenty-footer" This car is way, way better that a twenty footer.
Car is located in Spring Hill Fl. 34606 and can be picked up any time on July 18th or morning of July 19th. I live in another part of Florida but I will be at my mom's house that day.
