Description:

1984 Oldsmobile Toronado Caliente

You are looking at what is likely the most loaded 79-85 Oldsmobile Toronado ever built. Not only is this car the rare, two-year only, top of the line 'Caliente' model but it is equipped with literally every factory option Oldsmobile offered. Add to that it is finished in seldom seen beautiful triple 'Sand Gray' and you have a one of a kind car. The most luxurious Oldsmobile offered. This car is likely ONE OF ONE. That rarity, combined with the Toronado being the lowest production of it's corporate cousins (Eldorado and Riviera), and you are looking at a very solid investment car.
The Caliente package was offered in 1984-85 only. It was designed to compete with Cadillac's Eldorado Biarritz. Only 5,000 Caliente Toronados were built in that two year time frame. Among a number of extra goodies included in the Caliente package were the brushed body side molding and gorgeous up and over stainless roof trim make it really stand out. The deluxe 'custom' leather interior was also included in the package.
The window sticker on this car is unbelievable. Take a look. Bose stereo, Astroroof, first year optional auto day/night mirror, memory seats, dual recliners, and much much more. It even has the optional voice module - IT TALKS! Importantly this car has the optional 5.0 liter (307 ci) Oldsmobile V8 (a 4.1L V6 was standard) AND the desirable F41 optional "Firm Ride and Handling Package"! This makes this car a very enjoyable modern driver....it rides and handles beautifully, admittedly better than my 1981 Eldorado Biarrtiz.
The car is unrestored and original with the exception of the usual 1980s GM weaknesses; the bumper fillers and headliner have been professionally replaced. Otherwise it appears to be untouched and GORGEOUS....paint, chrome, vinyl roof, leather, and carpets. It is a real head turner and I get compliments every time I step out of it. The combination of the sublte Sand Gray colors with the extra-bling of the Caliente package really pops.
Mechanically the car is excellent and runs fantastic. I would not hesitate to drive it cross country. Everything works from the cold air conditioning to the power antenna. The following work has been completed within the last 400 miles:
  • Complete transmission overhaul at 72,692
  • Four new Coker American Classic tires
  • NEW radiator and full cooling system service - the correct brass radiator, not a cheap plastic replacement
  • New Valve cover gaskets
  • Oil/filter change and battery
Cosmetically the car is outstanding. The car was delivered new in El Paso, TX and has spent it's life in the dry Southwest. It has ZERO rust. The condition of the original paint, vinyl roof, chrome, even the beautiful factory wire wheel covers, reflect the garaged and pampered life it has led. Frankly it could easily pass for a car with 30,000 miles not 72,000. The car has no signs of collision damage or paint work of any kind. The original factory paint on the horizontal surfaces has only the slightest bit of lacquer checking, as was common with all 1980s GM paint. It doesn't show at all with the pale Sand Gray color and can only be seen when looking for it, at 12" away from the car. It is truly unnoticeable.
The exhaustive list of extra cost options (over $6,000 of options on a $16,000 base price car - see window sticker) includes:

In addition to all this factory equipment the dealer added "Armadillo" interior and exterior protection (which appears to have preserved the car magnificently!) and Sound Shield & Undercoating (on a car delivered in El Paso?). This brought the sticker price to a whopping $23,432... in 1984!
