Description:
1963 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight
Very original 1963 Olds Nintey Eight with 63,500 ish original miles. White with silver interior, it is beautiful and classy in a rare combination. It has the 394 big block (6.5L) with factory optioned four barrel carb making 330hp and 440 lbs torque. This car moves along easily and smoothly. The automatic transmission works flawlessly and is as smooth as anything else I've ever driven. Top of the line Luxury Sedan model is fully equipped with power - windows, brakes, steering, antenna, and seats. It is also equipped with glove box trunk release and Safety Sentinel speed control. It even comes with the original owners manual. This car sat in a garage for 20 years or so (according to previous owner) and it shows. It was bought new locally and has always been here. Original black plates and dealer frames are still on the car. Fluids have been changed, maintenance done, and I just put in over $1100 worth of new exhaust, new master cylinder, and rebuilt power brake booster. The car stops great but it will eventually need wheel cylinders replaced which I have and are included. I was debating on a disk brake swap. The engine runs great with a small puff of smoke on startup, but runs clean otherwise. The carb needs to rebuilt and probably timing adjustment afterwards for optimal performance. Again, I was debating on a modern carb upgrade. There are five new tires. The paint is in good original condition with no dents or scrapes. There is some surface rust starting is spots but no body cancer anywhere. The floors and trunk are great, as are the wheel wells and door jambs. There is a spot by the front right wheel, and under the right rear corner of the back window that is the worst of it, but not too bad. The rear bumper has the typical for these cars rot at the bumper mount. The center section of the bumper could be repaired or replaced. Stuff that is relatively easy to manage.
The things still left to do on the car are small and relatively easy, but I just don't have the means to continue at this point. There is a relay that is out that controls the power windows and seats. I have bypassed it to operate the windows only temporarily. I got a replacement OEM part but I didn't work and I just haven't bought another one yet. They are available on eBay or other sources. The fan for the heater is not working but it was when I got the car. It kinda flickered on and off a few times befor stopping like a connection came loose. I believe the fix is that simple but crawling under the dash just isn't something I can do right now. That's all that really needs to be done with the car to have it fully operational. The original glass is in great shape with one rock chip in the windshield, all the power windows work, and the trunk release, radio and power antenna even work great.
This thing rides awesome and is a true pleasure to drive. I try to drive it regularly to keep everything moving, and mostly because I enjoy it. The paint may not be perfect like a show car, but I feel is great as a driver car that you can truly use and enjoy in its original condition. I have tried to be as accurate and honest as possible in describing the car. If all the little things were fixed or perfect it would easily be a 15k car. As it is I feel that my price of $6500 is very fair and market correct. The title is clean and in my name. Car is for sale locally, I reserve the right to end the auction at any time.
