1965 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight Jetstar

1965 Olds Jetstar 88, my son is the second owner of this car, We have known the owners family for many, many years The state took away the owners drivers license at 90 some years old in 2010 or so (he purchased it when he was in his forties but had a company vehicle most of the cars life so it sat in a carport in Indiana),When he passed away about three years ago, my son purchased it from the estate. He has been driving it every day for the past three years and put about ten thousand miles on it, it has the 330 engine and two speed transmission both of which work fine, no oil leaks or burning idles smooth, trans shifts well during that time he replaced many parts, the carburetor, alternator, battery, upper radiator hose, and heater core, it was tuned up about two thousand miles ago, When he purchased the car the brakes were bad from sitting, so he flushed the system, replaced the master cylinder, several brake lines, (they were not leaking but he thought they looked a little rusty so he did them as a precaution), the front wheel cylinders were rebuilt, new shoes and hardware were also put in the front, he also replaced the outer tie rod ends and the idler arm at the same time, the rear differential had a small bearing noise so rather than rebuild the Oldsmobile one which parts are crazy expensive for, he found a Chevelle rear end that had been rebuilt professionally with all new bearings and seals, a better gear ratio and all new lines, wheel cylinders, brake shoes, hardware and drums. at the same time he had the driveshaft rebuilt and balanced. The tires have about five thousand miles on them and are in good shape, there are some older chrome wheels on it also, the AM radio works but the speaker is bad so no sound comes out, when he hooked up a remote speaker it worked as good as an Am radio can be expected. He repaired the vacuum operated remote trunk release in the glove box also and it operates as it should when the car is running. He recently joined the military and found out he cannot have a car at his duty station for at least three years, so it has been sitting since June, I have driven the car regularly since he left back and forth to work at least twice a week, 25 miles each way with no problems and he would drive the car to visit friends at college one hundred miles each way at least once a month with no issues. The majority of this car is original paint, part of the hood was refinished MANY years ago as was the end of the right quarter panel, NO FILLER was used either time My son loves the "patina" on the car and regularly waxed the car. So much for the good, now the not so good, the seats are in rough shape, split seams and a large section of the cover missing on the rear seat back. The exhaust is in need of replacement from the front all the way back, there will be a used flowmaster muffler in the trunk when you purchase the car as that was his next project. the bottoms of the quarter panels are rusty about an inch up behind the wheels and the rear bumper has some rust also, the fenders each have small holes about one or two inches long by about an inch high at the lower mouldings and the left doors and the front of the quarter panel have been scraped against a concrete post, A reputable body guy in the neighborhood said all three panels were an easy fix because they are not smashed but as he put it "rubbed against something" the rust is isolated to the four spots as far as he could see and were also not a serious problem to repair, The trunk floor is solid with no rust thru at all, the interior floors are just as solid with no holes that we could find If you have any questions I will do the best I can but I will not have any contact with my son for at least the next couple of months except for snail mail so some answers may be unavailable. I have set a low reserve price and we know this isn't a $50k musclecar, it isn't even a $4k musclecar but it is a dependable cool old car with great patina. same look as the cutlass but way less money and more room He does want it gone rather than sitting in his grandmothers driveway going to waste so make an offer.
