Clarification:
It is my intention to provide interested buyers with the correct and accurate information regarding this 1956 Oldsmobile. I will try to clarify below the vehicles componenets so that you may know exactly what I know. I have also provided additional pictures to help support that and answer other questions that you might have. I am not representing this car as an ORIGINAL car. There have been upgrades for driveablity, eliably and convenience during its restoration. I will be happy to pull any numbers that you like from the car.
Vehicle
The 1956 Oldsmobile 88 has a Code # "7" on the VIN which I believe indicates it is originally an 88. The engine was upgraded from the original 1956 Olds 88 324 CI engine to a 1960 Super 88 394 CI, husly the "Super 88" notation in the listing. See engine information below.
Engine
The engine is a 1960 394 CI 4 Barrel engine from a 1960 Oldsmobile Super 88. I have attached a picture of the "D" Code engine stamping and the decode in the pictures showing a 1960 Super 88 394 CI. Plus you can clearly see in the pictures it is a modern 4 Barrel Edelbrock carburetor and original Oldsmobile 4 barrel intake manifold. Please see attached pics.
Transmission
The transmission is believed to be original to the car and was rebuilt recently as stated. The transmission is clearly a 4 speed transmission that has a side pan on the drivers side and a lower pan. My understanding based on all the online research and Oldsmobile information is this transmission is the original transmission and called numerous names by Oldsmobile such as "Dual Range Hydra Matic", Control Coupling Hyda Matic", P Type" and "Jetaway". All this per Wikipedia and numerous Oldsmobile websites. Please see attached pics.
Drivetrain Build
The engine and transmission has approximately 2,000 miles on them since total rebuild and installation. I did mistype "1,000 miles" in the body of the listing but in another location it is correct at "2,000 miles".
Glass
The glass is very good however the original windshield in the vehicle and it does have a couple of old rock chips in it. Just not really bad enough for me to want to replace it.
