1985 Nissan 300ZX GLL
Selling my 1985 Nissan 300ZX (Z31). Bought it in 2015 with 94k and know this car probably better than I'd like to. The previous owner's mechanic incorrectly installed a gasket doing a top-end refresh and timing belt, and that resulted in poor oil pressure that quickly led to a broken crankshaft. This was at about 97k. I've since had the entire engine rebuilt by the dealership and it's been running solidly ever since. It currently is plated for Michigan, but has been kept in Nashville its entire life (I'm a student). To organize what else is going on with the car:The good:- I've replaced every vacuum hose in the car with new lines, including the ones under the dash. All but one have been replaced with silicone hoses instead of rubber like the originals.- The A/C has been converted to r134 from r12 and works like a champ (thanks to the new vacuum lines). Generally needs a recharge after the winter, but is quite cold once charged up- New battery in the past two years, new brake booster in the past 6 months, new rear struts at 105k, stiffer Anniversary Edition 300ZX rear springs which preserve the original ride height but help a ton with handling and rear end droop. Also have done the PRW-2 ignition module switch for smoother idling- The vast majority of the paint is absolutely beautiful, only surface rust in three spots smaller than a quarter each- The carpet was taken out and the floor was lined with EZ cool insulation. Helped a bit with road noise and significantly with cabin temps, especially in the winter- I have the original T-top covers and floor mats in excellent condition, as well as a hood bra and car cover- As far as spare parts, I have a second digital dash in excellent condition with 44k miles, a pathy manifold (was going to gut it for increased airflow), new front struts, a new headlight, a replacement side mirror, and a full poly bushing kit still waiting to be installed- Aftermarket Alpine radio and pioneer speakers, using the factory amp (the top GLL models came with a factory amp under the passenger seat, making upgrades to a better amp trivial if you're interested).
The bad:- the sensing mechanism for the headlights doesn't work. The headlights work fine, but the voice alert, interior running lights, and the headlight motors all don't respond to the headlights being turned on. This happened within the past 1k miles, so I can vouch that all of these worked fine earlier- There is some paint missing on the front and rear bumpers from quality Nashville drivers. I had been hit once while in the car not moving, watching the person drive into me face first at about 5mph. I had that time fixed, but since I've figured since it's only plastic exposed there's no reason to rush to address the further parking lot nudges- The driver's door has a couple small chips, and I was keyed down the passenger door and onto the hood two years ago.- The AC usually does not come out of the front vents, only the at the feet and defrost
Never raced, and certainly not drifted. It's an incredibly solid car, but I want something that I can leave outside uncovered without feeling bad about what might happen, and I can't afford to have two cars right now.
Looking for $3400 OBO. It's a solid $3000 car with an easy $1000 of extra parts and accessories to go with it, not to mention a rebuilt engine with only 30k on it. Text or email, let's work something out, and I'm happy to answer any questions.
