Designed by renowned Japanese designer Naomi Sakai. In 2011, noted design critic Phil Patton, writing for the New York Times, called the Pike cars "the height of postmodernism" and "unabashedly retro, promiscuously combining elements of the Citroen 2CV, Renault 4, Mini and Fiat 500". They were only sold in Japan in production from 1989-1991 with orders taken by reservation via a lottery, selling out the entire production run in just 3 months. Available in only 4 colors, all 1950's inspired hues with the majority of the exterior design heavily influenced by French design of the 1950's. Sakai believed that the designs he created directly affected the world around you, and that good aesthetics should not be limited to the 1%. It is also capable of getting 72mpg.
