1951 Nash Rambler Pro Street Top Pick of Hot Rod Magazine
Here is your opportunity to own a unique and well-known Pro Street / Street Rod which was one of Hot Rod Magazine’s 50 Hottest Rods of All time.
This is a 1951 Nash Ramble sedan delivery (one-of-a-kind) which was built by Johnny Young in 1989-1990. The body is all steel and still has the “Sherbert” enamel paint job with graphics.

The custom chassis is the original one built by Ace Hardgrove using 2x4 square tubing. Up front is a 1969 Mustang front-end with rack & pinion steering while a 9” Ford differential using 4.88 posi-traction gears and a TCI 4-link are out back. The Nash rides on 31.5” x 15” Pro Trac tires on the back and 205 x 65 x 15 radials up front. The wheels are custom made Chevrolet Rally wheels. The brakes are 4-wheel disc (non-power).
The current owner purchased the car approximately 16 years ago and rebuilt the 355 c.i. small block Chevy and added a Weiand 6-71 supercharger with Weber carburetors. The short block was align honed and the forged rotating assembly was balanced including the 9.5:1 pistons. A Comp Cams hydraulic roller was selected along with roller rockers. The ignition is by MSD and the long tube headers exit into 3” mufflers with side exhaust.
The Turbo 350 transmission was also rebuilt and uses a reverse manual valve body with a B&M shifter. The converter is a TCI unit with a stall of 2800 rpm.
Both the rebuilt engine and transmission have less than 1000 miles on them.
The tweed interior is pretty much the same as in 1990. The water temp, oil pressure, and voltmeter gauges are by Autometer. Stereo is a 90’s AC delco unit. The speedometer, odometer, and fuel gauges do not work.
All of the exterior and interior lights work including the turn signals. Although there are door poppers, usually reaching in the vent windows is the best way to open the heavy steel doors.
Even though the 32-year-old build is showing some age in various areas (please view all photos) it sounds and runs great. As well as draws a crowd at ever show and cruise event.
