1988 Mitsubishi Starion Coupe Grey RWD Automatic
1988 Mitsubishi Starion
Vehicle DetailsSelling my 88 Mitsubishi Starion, twin to the Chrysler conquest. This car is in great shape for the age. Some highlights
Rebuilt engine at 75k miles. New Non jet valve head was used, along with ARP head studs, new oil pump, new exhaust manifold, new knock sensor. The car does not smoke, make any bad sounds, does not overheat or run warm.
18G turbo set at 15 PSI. Makes good power!
1G mass airflow sensor upgrade
Blow off valve (recirculated into the intake)
Suspension Techniques sway bars
Lots of steering/suspension components were replaced at the time of the engine rebuild to include relay rod, ball joints, tie rods, and Pittman and idler arms.
Fallen Tires have less than 1000 miles on them. Factory wheels have a great shine to them and are not badly curbed.
New fuel pump
Automatic transmission shifts great, all gears work as they should.
The car is rust free on the body and underneath. The paint is original, and shows it’s age on the bumpers, rear spoiler, mirrors, and minor fading on the top of the drivers fender and drivers door. To be concours level the car would probably need a complete respray, but a respray of the bumpers and spoiler would really make this a very presentable driver and cruiser.
The interior is in nice shape, the drivers seat has minor wear on the bolster, and the outside shoulder seam on the drivers and passenger front seats has split. There is minor fading on the dash, and minor cracks on the gauge bezel. All imperfections are pictured. The seats are very comfortable, not stained or soiled, the carpet is in good shape. Everything works as it should including the windows, heat, blower motor, etc. I changed the AC and it works, but has a slow leak, and the freon leaked out after about 2 months. I have not attempted to diagnose. The stereo sounds great, the speakers have been upgraded, tweeters added, and an alpine subwoofer in the back.
As far as quirks, the car occasionally does not want to start, seems to be an out of adjustment neutral safety switch. if you move the shifter from Park to Neutral a few times, it will recognize the car is not in gear, and starts up fine at that point.
Occasionally the car will start to not want to rev high or boost after driving for 45 mins- an hour. If you shut the car off for a few seconds, and cut it back on then it runs great again. My suspicion is possible sediment or trash in the fuel tank. When I replaced the fuel pump, I inspected the inside of the fuel tank and it looked clear. However, there may be some sediment or debris in the tank. I am going to replace the fuel filter on the frame rail in the engine bay prior to the sale, I don’t really think that’s the issue, but its possible it could be.
I am doing my best to be up front about all the good and bad about this car. I hate to see it go. it’s a really nice example, and the cloth interior is so nice compared to the old hard ripped leather most of these cars have. The car is located in Doswell VA, and I’m happy to meet your shipper/broker if you’d like to have the car shipped. I will accept a deposit through EBay, but the balance of payment will be through wire transfer or cash. Any questions please let me know, I am happy to send videos of the car running, driving as well, I was not able to upload them here. This is a no reserve auction so bid to win!
