As you know, these rigs are becoming increasingly difficult to find, especially in near rust-free condition like this example! This Montero has spent most of its life in bone-dry Nebraska, and is in outstanding overall condition! It has almost 290k miles now on the body- but at around 215k miles in 2012 it went through a complete mechanical overhaul! From what I was told by the previous owner, it was used at the University of Nebraska as the "end-of-semester project" for the soon to be graduating mechanic students. The Professor of Mechanics there was supposedly a big Mitsubishi guy, and ex-Mitsubishi mechanic, so apparently he helped/had his graduating class completely go through everything on this! The engine received a rebuild, suspension was completely redone, transmission was gone through and clutch replaced, etc. I am unsure of EVERY detail and part that was replaced- but I 100% believe what I was told. This rig truly drives incredible! I have included some videos of the rig running in the Google Drive, the motor sounds great, ZERO lights on the dash, etc. ZERO leaks too! Does not leak or burn ANY fluids! Clutch is nice and stiff, and shifts through all gears very smoothly. 4x4 engages high and low correctly without any issue. SUPER CLEAN interior! Especially for the year and miles! Has the awesome "bouncy" seat, inclinometer, battery and oil gauges, manual windows, NO sunroof (that always breaks) RARE Chocolate-Mocha interior! I have never seen it before! You could have a meal off the headliner- in beautiful shape. This tank will go seriously go anywhere- I enjoyed it very much last winter. (It's mostly been my ski/mountain rig) Took on the famous Cottonwood Canyons in Utah with ease! Oil changed religiously, I just spent $800 on tires a few months ago. Even comes with a nationwide warranty! The truck currently needs nothing! However, as it is pushing 33 years old, it does have some quirks and "issues" not uncommon for the age. Most of this is cosmetic. It did have the heater core deleted, as apparently it kept dumping coolant on the driver floor. AC isnt that cold, but it HAS been converted to R134, so it likely just needs a recharge. I have tried to accurately photograph this vehicle, please look at ALL photos carefully! As you can see on the passenger side, some damage occurred long before I owned it. I have no idea what happened, but it is minor. The door is dented in a bit, but I think it's very fixable. (This is the "accident" you see reported on the CarFax, in 2004) The rest is just typical surface rust in random areas, dents and scratches, etc. I think the paint has held up really nice for the age, no fading or clear coat coming off, etc. This is a true survivor and there aren't many Gen 1 Monteros/Pajeros left! If you're reading this, I'm assuming you know that these are truly some of the toughest rigs to ever come out of Japan. Let your friends have their Land Cruisers- get something COOL!
