JDM Vehicle Importer1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT GTO Twin Turbo VR4 This is a foreign built vehicle and does not have a 17 digit vin.The chassis number stamped into the vehicle is Z16A-0017331
This is a 1993 Mitsubishi GTO. This is the Twin Turbo model. My buddy stationed in Osaka helped me locate this GTO and I purchased it from an USAF serviceman who was stationed at Yokota Air Force Base which is just outside of Tokyo.I was able to make a deal with the seller and I hired an Osaka export company to help me get it off the island.
The car was originally put up for sale because its "Shaken" had expired and the previous owner choose not to renew it. Shaken is the Japanese nickname given to the 24 month safety inspection and road taxes. It becomes increasingly expensive to pay tax on old cars and a 25 year old car can cost upwards of $2500 to Shaken. The car arrived and went through customs in Galveston Texas. When it arrived it had just over 142k km which is 88k miles. The car then went through its legalization progress and was registered in Columbus Ohio. It is legal in 48 states. California and Hawaii excluded.
When the GTO arrived it was suffering from fading clear coat, Krylon spray paint and had about 200 scratches painted over with fingernail polish or maybe touch up paint. It received an authentic set of 17x9" Ford "Cobra R" wheels that were used on my 97 Cobra racecar and both the wheels and car were prepped and resprayed in Ford's "Tuxedo Black" Tuxedo Black is a color used on Fords and Lincolns from 2009 to 2015. From a distance Tuxedo Black looks like ever other black but when up close or when the sun shines on it it explodes with dark blue and metal flake. It is a very impressive black. The paint job was performed at Willie's Auto Body Repair in Texas. The car has 4 pinky nail sized dents that were not visible till after the paint job. 2 on the drivers door, one on the passenger door and one on the passenger fender. Other than those, its a perfectly straight car with all gaps lining up and no evidence of any repair history. The roof was wrapped at Infinity Conversions also in Texas. Both the paint and wrap carry warranties. The car has a few minor issues. The ABS/Traction control light is on on the dashboard but the car stops fast and drama free. I am unsure of why the light is on. It might be traction control related as the car loves to slide its rear end out if the turbos kick in during turning. The A/C compressor shows to be weak and wont reach 225 psi on the high side at idle. It requires about 2500 rpm to reach 225. This is evident when driving around because it blows freezing when moving and just cool when idling. The valves and o rings have been replaced and it has been filled up with 134a refrigerant. It has a Sony JDM radio. It plays american CDs and MiniDisc but only reaches 90.0fm on the radio dial. The exhaust bypass button doesn't do anything so the car cruises around only in stealth mode. It is very quiet even when full throttle. Lots of turbo noises though. They ain't in stealth mode. The steering wheel has a spot where it is starting to wear and the passenger seat has a stain on it. Other than those areas it is a sexy, good running GTO.Feel free to contact me if you want more pictures or have any questions about the vehicle. A deposit will need to be initiated within 24 hours of auction ending. Either by PayPal or Wire Transfer. Full payment must be received before the car will be released to the shipper. Your welcome to inspect car at any time and Hotel and Entertainment will be provided in Columbus if you want to pick the car up. Arrival in Ohio
The GTO sailed through customs on August 3rd and I picked it up from port in Glaveston, TX a few days afterwards. Got its paperwork and paint straightened out and arrived in Ohio November 11.
InteriorThe Interior of the GTO is in great shape. It is a little worn from 92k miles of use but there are no major problems. The steering wheel is beginning to wear in one spot, there is a stain on the passenger seat, some wear on the drivers seat bolster, a small tear in the side window trim, one of the buttons (active exhasut) doesn't do anything when pushed but it is free from tears, cigarette burns, cracks in the dash and other annoying problems. Both window regulators have been replaced with new units and USDM 3000GT regulators were what was used. They plug right into the JDM window switches. All lights light up. The drivers seat is power but the passenger seat is manual.
DocumentationThe GTO came supplied with its original owners manual as well as other Japanese documents. This is the first time I have ever received the original grade sheet with my imported car. It will be passed along to the new owner. The car was graded a "3" meaning no accident repair history or evidence. The "C" is the grade for the interior and that means average interior expected for its age. The car was purchased In June 2018 with 142k KM, about 5000km less than it has now.
MechanicalThe GTO is extremely easy to care for as its parts are available at the local parts store. It is the same mechanically as the 3000GT VR4. It uses a Mitsubishi 6G72 DOHC V6 with a pair of Mitsubishi 9B turbos. The 3.0L V6 is mated to a Getrag 5spd AWD transmission and is rated, in Japan, at 276hp. It hasn't given me any major issues in the 5000km I have put on it. I addressed some minor problems such as a coolant leak, a funky intermittent rough idle and a "Click, click start" issue. I have changed the oil twice, replaced the upper and lower radiator hoses, replaced the spark plugs and wires, the associated gaskets, fuel filter, new tires, bled the brakes and replaced the ignition switch wiring. The GTO had its timing belt and waterpump replaced and other related service at 127k km. The ECS suspension functions perfectly as does the all wheel steering and the all wheel drive. The active aero works and spoilers go up and down. It has absolutely zero corrosion. It came from west Tokyo which has a Texas climate.
"Carbon Fiber"During paint the theme of the car became "Black and Carbon Fiber" The roof was wrapped 3 times with different brand carbon fiber wraps but they weren't convincing enough. You can't spray automotive clearcoat over a vinyl wrap either. Ask me how I know. After trying several things and talking to an Oracle sales rep we came up with a combination of wraps that gave me the desired effect I was seeking. The brake calipers and tail pipe tips were prepped and painted with caliper paint then hydrodipped in a carbon fiber pattern and sprayed with automotive clearcoat. Hydrodipping is very heat resistant. They hydrodip gun parts with no problems. The brake pedals have carbon fiber on them and a 5 speed carbon fiber shift knob, to match, has been ordered.LegalityThis car is 100% legal in 48 states the United States of America. California and Hawaii excluded. It was 100% legally exported from Japan, 100% legally imported into the USA and 100% legally registered in the State of Ohio. It was declared under "exemption 1" the 25 year clause, as it became eligible for importation in May 2018. This GTO has been granted an exemption from Federal crash safety standards and EPA emissions standards in 48 states. I have copies of all the paperwork I used and received from importing and legalizing the vehicle. It will be provided to the new owner along with all the other documentation. It wears brand new (1000 miles old max) US DOT road legal tires that were mounted and balanced. The Ohio BMV has copies of all import paperwork and is scanned into the BMV database.
