This right-hand drive Austin Mini Cooper MK2was manufactured on August 15, 1968 anddispatched to The Automobile Palace in Llanfair,Anglesey, Wales on August 16, 1968. The carwas first registered in January 1969 irCaernarvonshire, Wales. There were fiveprevious owners, all in Wales, prior to myacquisition. Previous owner purchased the car from CotswoldClassic Car Ltd. in Staverton, Gloucester,Gloucestershire in May 2013. It arrived inCanada on July 9, 2013 and was first registeredin the Province of Ontario on July 17, 2013. Thecar underwent a full restoration by The Guild ofAutomotive Restorers in Bradford, Ontario,Canada between August 21,2014 and July2018. It can be seen in the following episodesof Restoration Garage: Season 2, Episode 5 (It'sAlive), Season 4, Episode 2 (Mopar Nut),Season5, and Episode 2 (Cord Confusion). The car wasimported to the United States in September2018 and is currently registered in the State of North Carolina.The purchase and importation of thiscar to United States is fullydocumented.No expense was spared in the restoration ofthis Austin Cooper. A full, bare metal, nut andbolt restoration was performed. The car wasstripped to bare metal via an acid dip. Newpanels were installed for the front end (innerand outer wings, A Panels, and front panel),passenger compartment floor panel, door-steppanels and sills, boot floor and rear valance, andwheel arches. Doors were reskinned and frontand rear bonnets repaired. The car was broughtback to its original color of Snowberry White over Island Blue. The rear subframe wasreplaced. Interior carpeting, headlining, doorcards, dashboard cards, and bin liners, and bootboard were replaced with top quality NewtonCommercial products. Front and rear seatswere re-foamed. The black seat covers whichwere original to the car as imported were inexcellent condition and were re-used. Theengine and transmission were totally rebuilt.New parts include engine mounts, pistons, andchain, Rimflo intake and exhaust valves,electronic ignition, fuel pump, water pump,timing gear and chain, cam and main bearings,clutch pressure plate, clutch lever, clutchmaster cylinder, and driveshaft coupling. Thetwin SU carburetors are paired with a rare andoriginal set of 4"Les Leston velocitystacks. Suspension and steering restorationincluded track rod ends, knuckle joints, balljoints, rubber cones, shock absorbers, steeringrack, braided brake lines, 7.5" Cooper S discbrakes on the front end, and drum brakes on therear end. The restoration receipts provide thefull story of the extensive restoration that wasperformed.While the goal of the restoration was to returnthe car to original condition, there has beensome light customization performed. AnItalian Job roll cage and lamp bar have beeninstalled. A "Works Style" backup lamp hasbeen installed on the boot lid. A secondright hand fuel tank (which was an option for998cc Coopers but not original to this specific car) has been installed. A custom instrumentbinnacle housing two vacuum gauges (one foreach carburetor) and a Smith's tachometer(non-functional) is mounted on the dash in frontof the driver.The restoration is fully documented inphotographs, TV episodes, and with hundreds ofpages of documentation including importforms, e-mails, and receipts for parts andrestoration.
