1971 Mini Cooper

This gorgeous Mini Cooper was purchased in 2016 and has been lovingly cared for, spending most of its time in an air conditioned Florida garage and professionally detailed regularly. It is now located in Massachusetts. From the factory, the car was optioned with the burled walnut dash panel, tan leather trim and polished alloy window cranks, door release and pull handles. The desirable "Sportspack" was also fitted, which includes 13" alloy rims, larger wheel arches and a special steering rack.Overall, the original Flame Red paint is outstanding and lustrous with a few minor blemishes. The interior is in similarly excellent condition. There are a few thin cracks in the dashboard clear coat but otherwise, the cabin shows very little wear.
The car received a full engine rebuild in 2019, including machine shop work and a host of performance modifications. These include a performance camshaft, new valves, springs and guides, fully programmable fuel injection system, uprated clutch and flywheel, high lift alloy rockers, duplex timing chain with adjustable timing gear, big valve cylinder head and LCB headers feeding a custom Magnaflow/Maniflow exhaust system. An alloy side mount radiator and hood vents were fitted to improve cooling. A shorter 3.2 final drive was installed with a stronger X-Pin differential to maximize acceleration. Approximately 3100 miles have been accrued since the rebuild. Unlike the factory specification, which ran out of steam after 3000RPM, the engine now pulls quite eagerly to redline. Power is likely around 90HP, a meaningful leap over the stock 68.
To match the power increase, the chassis was extensively upgraded with a coil spring conversion kit, adjustable front control arms and tie rods, as well as adjustable camber/toe plates for the rear radius arms. Sticky Yokohama A048s provide tons of grip and the Wilwood 9.5" front brake conversion stops the car on a dime. The rubber front subframe bushings have been changed to solid alloy items and polyurethane were bushings used in the rear. The suspension is quite stiff with little body roll. Turn-in is sharp and immediate.Inside, gear changes are aided by a KAD Quickshift gear lever. A suede Sabelt steering wheel, drilled alloy pedal covers, Corbeau seats and Autometer gauges provide a tasteful, custom look.
Lastly, custom sound insulation floor and firewall mats and a custom cold air intake were fabricated to help keep interior noise levels reasonable as well as to increase performance. There are very few major mechanical parts of this Mini that haven't been replaced. It looks nearly new and drives like a go-kart, turning heads and eliciting smiles wherever it goes. During spirited driving, the more aggressive you are behind the wheel, the happier it gets! It is truly a joy on smooth, windy roads. This Mini was inspired by race cars and built to be edgy with lots of sensory stimulation and retro attitude. If you want something quiet and comfortable, this may not be the car for you. If however, you want to go tear up your favorite backroad or weekend track event with a tiny, iconic car that everyone loves, I think you'll be very happy!
Sale of the vehicle will include a car cover, trickle charger, generous spare parts collection, all records/receipts (over $17K worth) and a HP laptop plus AEM Air/fuel gauge for ECU tuning. The original Rover fuel injection system and original steering wheel can also be included if desired.Full disclosure, I believe this Mini to have been built in 1997. It seems to have been imported into the US around 2002 as a 1971 model and is currently cleanly titled as such. If you have any questions about the car, please do not hesitate to message me.
