1978 MG MGB

Beautiful unrestored 1978 MGB in the highly desirable white with black graphics. I have owned this fine example of the legendary MGB since July 2017 It has 50,110 original miles (subject to change because I continue to drive it). The 1800 cc engine starts well and runs without smoking. This vehicle has been desmogged and has an aftermarket exhaust system that gives it a delightful rumble. It has been retrofitted with twin SU carburetors from a 1970 MGB/GT, boosting horsepower from 62 to around 90. A manual choke controls the air and fuel mixture, ensuring easy start-ups regardless of temperature. Oil pressure is solid and holds steady. There are the usual oil leaks from the typical places that amount to no more than a couple of spots on a catch pan over several weeks. It has been stored in a climate-controlled facility each winter during my ownership. Until last summer it has been stored indoors and covered. Last summer it was parked outdoors, but always covered. It always has the top down, so it has never been driven in the rain.

Body shows no rust-through. There is one small spot of bubbling paint behind the driver?s side door. See detail in photos.Only surface corrosion is present on the underparts. The original white paint retains a nice shine. There are some marks on the rocker panels from debris kick-up. The rubber bumpers are undamaged and the front includes an aftermarket air dam. A few surface dings are present on hood, trunk lid and body-side chrome trim. There is a crack in the top of one taillight. Small rip in driver?s seat. Top is worn with a small tear.

Significant service work done from 2012 - 2014 before I acquired the MGB (detailed from a notebook in the glovebox) includes, in chronological order: Dual SU carburetors installed, upper trunnion pins and bushings replaced, Pertronix ignition system installed, door to windshield seals replaced, throttle return springs replaced, changed accessory belt, changed transmission fluid. Installed muffler and custom exhaust, cylinder head hot-cleaned, valve job, thermostat, water pump, radiator hoses, new engine and transmission mounts. Swivel and kingpin assemblies rebuilt, new front suspension bushings installed.
