1976 MG Midget

Up for your consideration is this 1976 Mg Midget. Please scroll down to see more photographs. I bought this 50th anniversary Tahiti Blue beauty in August of 2011 from the family of the original owner. They only used it during the summer at their summer cottage in Wisconsin. It runs and drives beautifully and I have properly maintained it since I've owned it and it's still in very good condition. It had a little more than 49,000 miles on it when I bought it and it now has about 53,500 miles. An oil change sticker shows it had 47,786 miles on it in October of 1985.
The manufacture date is November of 1975.
The Tahiti Blue paint is factory original and in good condition. The paint looks good but is not perfect and could use polishing and wax. There is a silver dollar sized dent in the top of the left fender but no paint damage (please see close up photograph. It's a good candidate for paintless dent removal). There is also a shallow dent in the small panel that is just forward of the driver door. This happened before I owned the car and you can tell it occurred from the door opening too far. There are some chips in the paint here and there including under the edge of the badge that's on the trunk lid. The car has never been in an accident. I have never driven the car in the winter and I'm 99% certain that the previous owner didn't either. I have always kept the car in a garage or a car port.
I replaced the top about 2014 with a high quality Robbins top and it is in excellent condition. The original top was black and the original black top boot cover is included. The interior is all original and in very good condition. There are no rips or tears in the seats and the door panels are also in very good condition. The section of carpeting on the drivers side floor has been replaced and there is wear showing on the passenger side carpet. The ashtray is missing. I have never smoked or allowed smoking in the car and I see no signs that the previous owners ever smoked in it. The padded dash has a decent repair to a 2" long crack on the passenger side (this can be seen in the close up photo). There is another smaller crack showing just to the left of the repaired crack but it has not moved in the 10+years that I've owned the car (this can also be seen in the close up photo).
I added a Kenwood AM/FM CD stereo which sounds excellent. It has an auxiliary jack on the front panel so you can plug in other audio sources. It also comes with a remote control. The rear speakers were installed by the previous owner and are in good condition.
The engine runs great. It doesn't leak oil or use oil beyond anything normal. I removed the emission control air pump from the engine when I bought the car and still have it and it will be included with the car in case anyone wants to reinstall it. The fresh air duct for the heater was missing when I bought the car and since I never use the heater I never saw a need to replace it. I have always changed the engine oil once each spring no matter how few miles were put on it the previous summer... which some years was probably only 200 or 300 miles.
The only thing less than excellent about the engine is that the engine won't start unless the carburetor is primed with gas whenever the engine has not been started for more than a few weeks. Other than that it starts fast and easy but if the engine isn't started for a month or two it will need priming again. For me it only needs priming once in the spring and it's good for the rest of the summer until the next spring.
The battery is old but still good. I take it out every winter and keep it charged up until spring. The muffler has a couple of small holes in it but not that bad so I never saw a need to replace it although it probably should be replaced to be perfect. I'm pretty sure all of the exhaust system is original and the rest of it is in good condition.
The car had a complete and thorough brake job including new wheel cylinders, calipers, master cylinder, hoses, pads and shoes in August of 2018... which was about 200 miles ago. The tires were new in the summer of 2018 and only have a couple hundred miles on them. The clutch slave cylinder was replaced and the clutch master cylinder was rebuilt at the same time that the brakes were done. The starter and alternator were replaced about 5 years ago. I had the shock absorbers serviced during the summer of 2017 and they are in good condition. Everything works as it should.
This is a VERY FUN and well maintained car in great original condition.
