1969 MGC Roadster 4 Speed Overdrive Wires Easy Revival Restore Project MG C B A
1969 MG MGC
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:This is a no reserve auction. Time to let go of my car collection. This is a running 1969 MGC roadster with a 4 speed overdrive transmission. British Heritage certificate shows it is an original matching numbers car built between April 22-30, 1969. Shipped to the USA May 8, 1969. Correct British racing green. An easy restoration/project needing paint and some recommissioning work as described below. Scroll down to see plenty of other photos.
HISTORY:
Always wanted an MGC roadster - They are such great long distance cruisers. Have had many MGA's, MGB's and the MGC is by far a better, more substantial feeling car all around. Not many were manufactured. This one became available by word of mouth through a friend and I purchased the car from a lady and her husband in Florida. They loved the car and took exceptional care of it but health problems forced them to give it up. It has been stored in our warehouse since we bought it 30 years ago. It was an excellent running and driving car with everything working perfectly at the time.
VALUE:
As of this writing Hagertys classic car values list the value for the 1969 MGC roadster with overdrive and wire wheels at: Fair: $8,600. Good: $16,000. Excellent: $33,700. Concours: $51,000. The cars actual condition is at least fair. It is also a good investment as the value will probably continue to increase over time.
ENGINE:
The engine starts with the ignition key and runs very well. We started and ran the engine with an auxilliary fuel tank long enough to see that it ran well, had no misses, smoke or noises and had good oil pressure. Has 130 pounds compression straight across all 6 cylinders - taken cold without oil in the cylinders. Sump oil is clean and clear and has not been changed since I have had the car. All original emissions equipment is intact - air pump even works. Most of the MGC's engines and engine compartments have been modified and many original parts tossed out or changed - this one is completely stock.
NEW PARTS:
New ignition switch.
TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH/DIFFERENTIAL:
Car was in good running and driving order when it was put in storage. The transmission, clutch, overdrive should be fine. We have not done any recommissioning work to get things back in road ready order such as hydraulics - slave and master cylinders, etc.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT:
Excellent, straight, original paint, solid, undamaged. No accident or other damage anywhere. As original as they get. Nothing missing. The horizontal bulkhead area where the master cylinders are mounted has some holes in it (from brake fluid of course) as shown in one photo.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT:
Excellent, all original, original paint. Very solid with the exception of a couple rust holes in the center as shown in one photo.
BODY PANELS, SHEET METAL:
The car had been rustproofed from new. Sometimes this is a bad thing - depending on what kind of "rustproofing" and who puts it on. This time the rustproofing was a good thing, because the floorboards and other major rust prone areas are in exceptionally good solid shape as shown. Seats were removed for photos. Very straight and undamaged throughout. The rust areas (all easily fixed) as shown are: Rocker panels, lower door skin on passenger side, small holes in toeboard where it meets the floor on passenger side. Very minor easily fixed metalwork. Original owner had mounted a few brass European badges/cloisones on the front and rear - a couple of them from Switzerland and Austria are still there, the rest are missing. It had a luggage rack which is missing but the 4 mounting holes are still there, capped off.
EXTERIOR BODY PARTS:
Chrome is all original and still decent.
PAINT:
Needs painting.
INTERIOR/UPHOLSTERY:
The interior is in pretty good original condition as shown. I believe the seats have been replaced at one time for a color change. Originals were black. They are very good and solid but are unmounted because the mounting rails are missing. Original door panels are good but top bolsters above the panels need reupholstering. The original carpet and rubber floor coverings are still there. Car was originally outfitted with a luggage rack, Amco door guards, sill plates, center console and a hardtop. Door guards and sill plates are still intact. Luggage rack and hardtop are not there - never got them with the car.
DASH AREA:
Dashboard is all original and in good shape. Top pad is cracked. Original gauges are all there. Working: Speedometer and trip reset, oil pressure gauge, tachometer, temperature gauge. Unsure if fuel gauge works. horns do not work. Radio is a vintage period Blaupunkt AMFM pushbutton model but does not work.
ELECTRICAL:
Surprise - most everything works. Working: Lucas headlights, high and low beam, wipers, washer motor, heater fan and switch, turn signals, parking lights, dash lights, hazard lights, cigar lighter, alternator, original electric fuel pump (miracle). There is no battery. Battery boxes are in perfect unrusted order.
GLASS:
All glass is factory original and in good condition. The windshield has some minor fogging along the edges and a few minor windshield wiper marks. Side windows are good and roll up and down.
CHASSIS:
The underside is excellent, straight, complete and undamaged from front to back. There is no softtop but the original folding top frame is intact and in excellent condition with all the hardware. The original battery boxes are in excellent unrusted condition. Frame is in excellent unrusted condition.
WHEELS/TIRES:
All original excellent undamaged 72 spoke wire wheels (5). Tires are original 15" but of course will need replacing.
SUSPENSION/BRAKES/STEERING:
All complete, original and untouched. Everything works fine with the exception of the brakes - nothing was done to get them up in working order.
EXHAUST:
None - The original exhaust manifold is there and in excellent condition but the rest of the exhaust system will need to be replaced.
FACTORY ID PLATES:
The original ID plates are all excellent and unmodified. The vehicle serial number is GCN1-U/7392G. The engine number is 29GA-RU-H/3004. These are the correct matching original numbers as noted on the British Heritage certificate.
PAPERWORK:
The car does have a clear proper Florida title dated 1986, signed in blank on the backside by the owner. Includes the British Motor Industries Heritage Certificate.
REVIEW:
A running, easy restoration minor project MGC roadster with the desirable 4 speed transmission with overdrive. Not a car that has been abused or knocked about over the years, but one that has had a good caretaking owner. Car only has 54,961 miles on it and the original owner verified that it was correct.
INSPECTION OF CAR:
It is difficult at best to describe something as complex as a vehicle and it is recommended that you personally inspect the car or have a 3rd party inspect it for you. I can accommodate anyone to show them the car. It is described to the best of my ability along with many good photos but it is the bidders ultimate responsibility to ensure that what he thinks he is getting is indeed one in the same and something he will be happy with. I have purchased and sold roughly 30 autos/motorcycles through ebay over the past 20 years and have always had excellent results and complete satisfaction from the buyers with 100 percent positive feedback.
SHIPPING:
Having shipped cars to all parts of the world over the years I can assist the buyer with transport or completely arrange transport. The cheapest method usually is to call a transport broker in your area and have them put out bids for the job. The car is in a secure place at my home and it can be collected there. I can assist with loading.
