Restored 1953 MG TD
1953 MG T-Series
Thisvery fine TD has a 38 year documented history. The car presents very well with wonderful patina and is anexcellent, reliable, and trouble free driver's car. The engine sings and the steering is rock solid and accurate.
The car underwent a comprehensive, body off, restoration in 1992-93 by Michael Bachik enterprises of Morristown, NJ, who was a well known MG restorer at that time and closely associated with the New England T Registry. I have numerous prints of the restoration andservice records dating back to 1989.From the documentation and photo records, everything was restored to a high level, to include body and frame, mechanical, electrics, interior, paint, instruments, suspension, etc. A beautiful walnut burl dash was added during the restoration and the top and side curtains were replaced and show as new. Since that point in time, the car has been fastidiously maintained by the previous owner and myself and has seen only sunny days of driving. In three yearsof ownership,I refreshed the brake linings and wheel cylinders, replaced the bias ply tires with correctly sized radials, flushed the fluids, and performed routine maintenance seasonally. That is all the car has required; atestament to the quality of the restoration.I installeda set of iconic Brooklandracing screens to add some driving panache when the windshield is folded. I have added about 1,000 miles on the car in my three years of ownership or about 350 miles per season, which is very short here in Vermont. Beautiful, but short. Oil pressure is excellent as is the compression, which is consistent across all cylinders. The engine does not burn oil and there is no smoking. The odometer shows 34,850 miles and, quite possibly, is original, though I can't confirm this. A registration dating to1980 disclosed 29,554 miles at that time. I purchased the car with approximately 33,900 miles, so little mileage was added since the restoration was completed in 1993.Overall condition is very very good to excellent with nice patina for its age. I would rate this car as a 2- or 3+ on the Haggerty scale. Theonly item requiring attention is the tachometer which recently displayed intermittent functioning. I am reluctantly selling the car at below its market value to make room for a new driving experience. This MGTD will provide you with many years of enjoyable vintage motoring experience. Bid with confidence.
