1970 MG MGB

This numbers matching, rust free, accident damage free, 1970 MGB roadster is fitted with an 1800cc, 4 cylinder engine, 4 speed gear box, dual SU carburetors and is finished in Pale Primrose Yellow with a Black vinyl interior. 1970 features an only year split rear bumper and only year steering wheel center piece. Also featured is a newer convertible top, full tonneau cover, 14" wire wheels with eared knock offs, newer tires, recent engine and brake work and a working AM/FM cassette radio. The smog pump, air rail, gulp valve and charcoal canisters were removed by the previous owners. A British Heritage Certificate is included to document the originality of this MGB.
I bought the MG six years ago from a military man living in Las Vegas Nevada. When he bought it, it had been repainted it's current color. It is a Pale Primrose Yellow but has a bit of pearl in the paint which adds life to the otherwise dull color. A new convertible top had been installed and never used. New Firestone 175/70R14 radial tires were installed all around, including the spare. The car ran great and I drove it the 634 miles home without hesitation.
Since then I have enjoyed the car on many trips and rides with my British Car Club in and around the mountains of northern California. The trunk leaked really bad when it rained or when I washed it, so I replaced the trunk rubber seal and it has now had sufficient time to settle and the trunk fits fine, no more leaks. There was a hole in the rear muffler so I had it removed and had twin exhaust pipes (tips) installed. The previous owner installed a cam so the car now has a rather "business like" sound and burble. Tube style shocks had been fitted all around and the rear shock mounts had come loose and one had broken. I replaced both rear tube shocks with rebuilt, proper Armstrong Lever Shocks. There were no sun visors when I bought the car, so I found a pair and installed the one on the driver's side only. Since these little British cars sit so low, vision is easily blocked by the top of the windshield and convertible top. The sun visors only add to this dilemma, but it's nice to have one on the driver's side. The original 3 point Kangol seat belts were restored with new webbing and all metal components were re-chromed. They are still in use just as factory fitted.
On a ride in October 2016 the car suffered overheating due to a blown head gasket that resulted in cracking the head. The car had to sit for a little over a year before I could get to work on it.
I sourced a period correct head and had it professionally rebuilt. I inspected the block and pistons for any damage and non was found. The head and valve train were reinstalled, all valves adjusted and the timing was checked and set. While at it I rebuilt the twin SU carbs and replaced the fuel lines with braided stainless steel ones. I sourced a non smog valve cover and repainted it to match the head and block. I also bead blasted and repainted the intake and exhaust manifolds, heat shield and other components. The water pump was inspected and found to be in good condition, although I did order a new replacement which is included in the sale. Ignition components (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, condenser) were replaced, oil and filter changed and new coolant was added. Powder painted air cleaners with new filters are now installed along with a new fuel filter. A new battery was installed and it now runs great!
From sitting waiting for the above repairs, the rear brake cylinders froze and I found I had no brakes. At the same time we were forced to move from California to Omaha, Nebraska. During the move, the transport company rammed something through the radiator! So, once settled in Nebraska I replaced the radiator with a new one from England, replaced all hoses, fitted a new fan, belt and repaired the brakes. New wheel cylinders, all new springs and brake hoses were fitted. The entire system was flushed and filled with new fluid. All work was done between January and April of this year.
I added the MGB stripes and the Union Jack stickers on the front fenders for a touch of flash.
The car was originally fitted with a "stow away" top which has been replaced with a folding one. Although not as fast to put up or fold down as a modern car, it is far superior to the stow away design. As stated above, the top is newer, fits tight and has clear windows. There is also a full tonneau cover with original tonneau bars. The tonneau has a zipper down the middle affording the passenger compartment being closed off while driving. The original jack, spare, tonneau cover and bars fit nicely in the refinished trunk. Again, previous owners cut speakers holes in the rear bulkhead, however, I have sourced an original bulkhead to be used for a repair if so desired.
There is a dash cover installed, center armrest (Amco style) and radio. A crack in the windshield runs behind the center support bar and does not hamper vision. The passenger side bottom seat cushion needs to be replaced as it is has broken down and is rather flat. There are a few little paint chips and nicks but NO dents.
I am including boxes of spare parts with this sale. They include the aforementioned water pump, air cleaners, octagonal wheel hubs and wrench, a speedometer for an overdrive gearbox, some new switches and other smalls.
It was my intention of keeping this car (my first car was a 1970 MGB) however the move has forced to me to sell. I don't have the garage room anymore and keeping the car in storage is just no good. If you are looking for a clean, well cared for, original MGB, then look no further. You have found it! Additional photos are available upon request. For some reason eBay limited the number I could post here.
Car comes with a clean title in my name. All costs associated with transportation are the buyers responsibility. There is NO warranty on this 48 year old car.
