1976 & 1977 MGB
1977 MG MGB
I purchased these two MGBs from an elderly couple in North Carolina three years ago; they were "his & her" MGBs.I planned to spruce them up and consign them at the Mecum's auction the next spring.I ordered some needed parts (4 new tires, new polyethylene battery bin, bolt and nut kit for front bumper, etc.) but before I could more than started with fixing them up, my health failed to the point where I can no longer work on cars. That was 3 years ago, they have sat ever since. So I must sell them.
This is a "No Reserve" auction, so if you place a bid, you had better have your finances in place.Remember, you are bidding on two cars as I do not want to break up a matched pair. I have set the starting bid at a very reasonable price.I have several thousand more dollars invested in these cars than the starting bid.
No old car is completely rust-free, but both of these are 99% rust-free, there is none visible. Both are mechanically sound, they both: start, run, drive, and stop as they should. Both shift smoothly and the exhaust systems are in good shape.
1977 MGB
Mark V model; 96K showing on the odometer. The po told me he had the engine completely rebuilt about 10k miles ago, it has a big Weber carb installed on it.I've driven it up to 75 mph with no problems.
Primrose yellow exterior, black interior, black convertible top (Haartz cloth, top quality, needs cleaning but a complete cleaning kit is included), otherwise in excellent condition, window clear and not scratched up, fits tightly
Black hardtop, again the best quality, fiberglass covered in black vinyl, heavy duty chrome latches installed, perfect condition. (Sorry, no pics, it is hanging in my minibarn). This is at least a thousand dollar option.
Padded roll bar installed.
Seats from a Mazda Miata have replaced the stock seats; they have speakers in the headrests and are more comfortable. The seats are covered in black fabric, won't get hot in the direct sun like leather or vinyl.
Tonneau cover and storage bag included.
Premium sound system consisting of an Alpine cd/mp3/radio player with 10-cd disk changer and Pioneer speakers installed in the doors and elsewhere (plus the headrest speakers).
Chrome luggage rack mounted on trunk
Fire extinguisher and holding bracket mounted behind seat
Twin outside rear view mirrors
It currently has pinstriping on the fenders, doors, and hood, and MGB rally stripes on the sides. These are easily peeled off if you don't like them or prior to painting; I will include a new pinstripe/rally stripe kit ($100 from Moss Motors).
Genuine Nardi wood steering wheel; walnut with an ebony band around the rim.Modern Momo-type thick padded steering wheel also included, slightly smaller than the stock steering wheel.
Solid wood (not inexpensive and thin laminate, all wood is at least a half-inch thick) everywhere in the cockpit: gauge surround, dashboard vent surround, radio surround, glove box door, door garnish rails, console cover, gearshift surround, emergency brake handle (handmade by po), door handles, gearshift knob with cloisonné MG insert.
Chrome wheel trim rings: 8 in all, need polishing
The wheels are the stock Rostyle steel wheels; the ones on the car need to be repainted, however I have 5 extra wheels that are included that have been stored indoors.
Rear wheel MG-logo mud flaps
Fully carpeted in the front and back of the cockpit and MG-logo carpeted floor mats also in the front; the trunk is carpeted too, it even has a MG-logo spare tire cover.
Fancy vining etching around the top and side edges of both windows
Magnetized MG-logo rubber cover for the fresh air intake scoop on the cowl in cold weather
Front chin spoiler installed.
Halogen headlights installed and it has those "blue" running lights driving lights mounted behind the bumper.
Dual chrome exhaust tips
Haynes repair manual
The trunk lid has the usual slight kink in it from someone trying to push it down without lifting it first, but it seals OK, doesn't leak. However, a completely straight trunk lid is included, already painted yellow.
Needs: The paint is dull and faded so it needs a respray. It needs new tires and a battery. The installation of the new battery box needs to be completed, I didn't get very far on it before I was hospitalized.
1976 MGB
Mark IV model; 113K showing on the odometer.Shortly after I got it, I took it to an MG specialist who inspected it and gave it a tune-up.He said the compression was very good and that it was mechanically sound. He also cleaned the fuel system. The complete front suspension, shocks and all, has just recently been replaced; the parts all still look like new.
British Racing Green exterior, tan interior, tan vinyl convertible in excellent condition, window clear and not scratched up, fits tightly. It is painted with some kind of plasticized paint (remember Imron (?) paint in the 1980s?) that gives a deep finish and prevents rust from ever occurring.
Padded roll bar installed.
Seats from a Mazda Miata have replaced the stock seats; they have speakers in the headrests and are more comfortable. The seats are covered in tan leather.
Tonneau cover and storage bag included.
Premium sound system consisting of an Alpine cd/mp3/radio player with 10-cd disk changer and JBL speakers installed in the doors and elsewhere (plus the headrest speakers).
Chrome luggage rack mounted on trunk
Fire extinguisher and holding bracket mounted behind driver's seat
Twin chrome outside rear view mirrors
It currently has gold pinstriping on the hood and trunk, and gold MGB rally stripes on the sides. These are easily peeled off if you don't like them.
LeCarra wood steering wheel; oak(?) with mother of pearl dots around the rim.
Solid wood (not inexpensive and thin laminate, all wood is at least a half-inch thick) everywhere in the cockpit: gauge surround, dashboard vent surround, radio surround, glove box door, door garnish rails, console cover, gearshift surround, emergency brake handle (handmade by po), door handles, gearshift knob with cloisonné MG insert.
It has wire wheels installed (and one in the trunk); they are painted gold. They need to be repainted and the spokes retightened, some are loose.I have 4 brand new Kumho tires that are included, still have nubbies and stickers on the treads.A brass hammer also comes with it.
Fully carpeted in the front and back of the cockpit and MG-logo carpeted floor mats also in the front; the trunk is carpeted too, it even has a MG-logo spare tire cover.
Magnetized MG-logo rubber cover for the fresh air intake scoop on the cowl for cold weather
Front chin spoiler installed.
Halogen headlights installed
Chrome exhaust tip

Needs: The front bumper needs to be reattached, most of the bolts are missing and the ones that are there are not the correct ones (bolt and nut kit included). It needs a new battery. There is a baseball-sized dent in the hood caused by something falling on it; I think it can be tapped out without damage due to the special paint.
I also have 5 or 6 boxes of spare parts that I will throw in.They contain the stock headlight and taillight assemblies, aluminum and rubber trim parts, new clutch and brake pedals, and lots of various other MGB misc. stuff. There is also a like-new car cover, for indoor use.
The seller reserves the right to end this auction early as these cars are both advertised locally.Seller will assist with loading, but the transportation costs are the responsibility of the winning bidder.Continental U.S. sales only. Both of the titles are free and clear. I have tried to be honest in my descriptions and in pointing out their needs so that there are no nasty surprises awaiting the new owner. But due to the cars' age and having no way to warranty the carsI'm selling them"as is" and mileageexempt.A $500 non-refundable deposit is due within 48 hours of auctions end.
