1949 MG T-Series 2 Seater

You are bidding on a complete older restoration of a rare EXU version 1949 MG TC.2 Tone Blue and Grey over Dark Blue interior and Grey wire wheels.

A little about the history of the MG TC and the EXU version specifically for those who are not familiar…The MG TCwas the first postwar MG, launched in 1945. It was exported to the United States, even though only ever builtas a right-hand drive. Feedback from the American market led MG to develop this special EXU model for sale to the US beginning with car number 7380 in December 1948. Only 494were ever produced (less than 5% of all MG TC production), making this an extremely rare version of the MG Marque. The EXU versions had improvements such as full-widthbumpers, central MG medallian on rear bumper, number-plate mounted centrally above the rear bumper with Lucas number/license plate lamp above it, stop and tail lamps mounted on each side of the fuel tank as well asbuilt in turn signals.

The TC was naturally competing with the likes of Triumph, Morgan, Austin Healey and Jaguar for the attention of customers in markets such as the US.

This particular TC is a 1949 model and an EXU version as mentioned. It was producedtoward the very end of the TC production. With VIN 9856 it is quite late in the production run making it one of the absolute last produced. The car was the recipient of a complete restoration many years ago.Still presenting well today, but overall starting to show its ongoing age.

The exterior of the car (paint, chrome and glass) are all in original looking condition. The Paint itself looks ok from a distance but has crackingin a number of places with chips and some touch ups readily present. The chrome is in quite nice condition still. The tan top and side curtains were of course new during the restoration. The side curtains remain “as new” having not been used. The top still looks good with some minor staining and an 8” tear that has been patched. The windows in the top are perfectly clear and it is certainly useable “as is” and more than able to keep the elements out.

The interior of the car (seats, cockpit, carpet, door panels and dash)all remain in excellent condition. The seats, panels and dash are as restored with the carpet having been updated more recently. That beautiful wood dash with original gauges helps to set off the interior and add to the overall patina. Additionally an original style 4 spoke steering wheel is still present and in nice condition.

Mechanically the car is in good running condition and can certainly be used as is.The engine starts easily and runs well, idling perfectly without any strange noises. The clutch and transmission are tight and shift well while working as they should. The brakes are also working, but stiff as the car has not been driven recently on a regular basis.

All 5 factory wheels are present and in good condition while riding on period correct 4.75/5.00-19 bias ply tires. The tires are naturally old at this point and should be replaced prior to any serious top down driving adventures.
