1964 MGB MK1 Roadster
1964 MG MGB
This '64 MGB (sold at this point by an individual to keep the price low) is currently in Florida but was originally from California (CA black plates from 1964 included in sale) and in the prior owner’s family since 1978. I rescued it from a garage after being inherited and sitting for a few years. This car has not been used much, has no rust, no dents, no dings, and has the desirable (original) chrome bumpers, rare (original) front grille, pull handles, unmolested metal dash, and has been recently refreshed with the following:
New hoses throughout, new battery, new gas tank, new fuel hoses, new spark plugs, new bulbs and fuses, new front and rear brakes, new front & rear brake hoses, new brake master, new fuel filter, new fuel hoses, newly rebuilt front shocks, newly rebuilt twin SU carbs, new points & condenser, new thermostat, new alternator, new coil, new handbrake cable, new clutch, new tires, new accelerator cable, new driveshaft, new water pump, new seat foam, new head gasket, new “MG” door sill threshold plates, new muffler and resonator, new heater control valve and cable.
It is powered by an upgraded 5-main 1798cc inline 4 cylinder engine paired with a full-sync 4-speed manual transmission. The twin SU carbs have K&N air filters but the original air cans (that look new) are included. The engine bay is very clean as is the trunk/boot. This MGB runs strong, shifts (and down-shifts) smooth, and has been mechanically worked on by the British motoring experts at Glenn’s MG in St. Petersburg, Florida. The steering is tight thanks to a newly rebuilt steering rack, all new front suspension, poly bushings, brake calipers, rotors, pads, and new Kumho Solus 185/65R-15 tires. Yes, upgraded 15” spoke wheels that look amazing.
The engine was recently pulled to replace the clutch and head gasket and while it was gone through many parts were replaced as a matter of principle: driveshaft, water pump, belt, throw out bearing, seals, etc. This convertible is very well sorted and ready to drive anywhere for immense enjoyment.
This car has always been cared for and stored inside. The paint shines really well and is not without a few blemishes (see pics but hard to photograph). With minor effort this is a show winner. Take note of the shiny chrome bumpers and recently painted wire wheels with NOS knockoff eared nuts. It comes complete with a stowaway frame, a really nice black vinyl convertible top with clear plastic windows, and a rarely-used full cockpit tonneau cover. New seat foam was added under the black seat covers and the thick pile carpet looks new. The interior also has a period radio that provides nostalgic sound. Every light, inside and out, works. (The rear tail lights were replaced with LED bulbs for safety). The new chrome wipers, fan, heater, and even the windshield sprayers function as they should. What sets this MK1 MGB apart is the very early-styled solid mahogany door caps, the understated wood trim around the center instruments, and the 15” MotoLita wood steering wheel.
Here is an opportunity to own a well sorted turn-key-ready British classic convertible at an approachable price. You are invited to have it inspected or hop on a plane and drive it home!! More pictures and/or video available upon request.
