1961 MGA 1600 only 6k original miles matching #'s
1961 MG MGA
To be fair to all the watchers and bidders from the last auction, I am relisting to give everyone a fair shot at owning this beauty. I was not happy with the way the carbs were running so I took a week and had the rebuilt so it runs and idles smooth now! This 1961 MGA 1600 is 1 of only314 MGA 1600's made that year. Most were MGA 1600 MKIIs and only1 of 37Left Hand Drives sent to North America in 1961. This may be the lowest original miles MGA on the planet!
My reserve is below the NADA average price and this is no average MGA!

Matching number car. Engine # 16GA-U-H 26757
I purchased the car from an estate in Westchester County. NY last Summer.
The car was described to me as their Parade and Car Show vehicle.
I found it garaged and on 4 wheel dollies with her original PLY (non-radial) tires.
All fluids were drained and the car had not been registered or used since 2004.
I brought it to my mechanic in CT and with only fluids, a fuel pump and a tune up, she fired right up and drove fine, (except for the dry rotted tires.
I purchases 5 new Firestone Radials and new tubes and drove the car in CT for a month and even won a trophy at local car show.
I then had it shipped to sunny San Diego, CA in an enclosed carrier and now driving it here and getting lots of attention on the PCH 101. I have driven it over 100 miles here in CA.
The car had the following done;
electronic ignition
electric fuel pump
1 - 12 volt Battery still Positive Ground (earth)
top in great shape
side curtains in great shape
Newer carpet
Stainless steel pipe and muffler
The car had received a quality paint job decades ago and shows quite well for its age. Some cars' paint looks good at 20' or 10' away, this one looks good up close too! There are a couple of small paint chips and a scratch or two. The car as pictured has NOT been detailed or even waxed since I got it in August and will look even better after done. The car odometer shows under 6,000 miles and is original as far as the odometer reads and owners statements and signature on NY title and bill of sale.
The new CA title is clear registered with 5820 actual miles last month.
I have just gone over 6000 miles now.
The only reason for selling is that I have a 1964 TR4 Overdrive which I have been restoring for 2 years and I just can't justify 2 Vintage British Roadsters.
The Blaupunkt radio does not work. I did installa new antenna for the car. No longer the hole on right front fender.
Directional signals work as well does the horn.
The light in center of the frontbumper is a working period correct LUCAS Fog lamp that does cover the hand crank hole in front bumper.
The car runs great and stops great too.
Wire wheels need truing but drives fine under 60mph.
It has the usual earlymodel MG oil leaks since these have no rear main seal.
The interior is also in great condition, but the leather seats had become brittle and stiff and some mice found their way into the seat bottom foam and nested there. So I havereplaced the seat backs and bottoms with new foam and new full leather covers and armrest at a cost of over $1600. (brand new) custom made NOT Moss or Victoria British covers. I have kept the original seat covers to show the low wear and they will be included with car. They just got too stiff to make nice and comfortable. The new seats are super comfy. I also just put a new Leather steering wheel cover on with red stitching that I ordered from England.
I also bought a newlong tonneau cover. The top is in great shape as well as the side curtains.
