Description:

1951 MG T-Series

For Auction is a 1951 MG TD. We have owned this car for about 4 years and it has been fantastic. It was originally a California car, restored in Florida in the mid to late 90’s. We bought it from Florida in 2012. Built March 14, 1951. Matching numbers.

During the 90’s restoration the engine was rebuilt, along with paint, interior, etc. There were some reproduction parts used on it. Apparently it was done with the intent of being a show car, however it received little driving during this time. It was then sold to the person we bought it from. He was in his 80s and only drove it for very short distances weekly but it was stored indoors the rest of the time. During the time we’ve owned it, we have put about 8000 trouble free miles on it. We have won awards at a few shows it’s been in. Actual mileage is unknown, but judging from the condition of visible parts, is likely less than 100k.

We have done a number of things to it when first purchased including:

New Lucas headlights

New floor boards

New seat foam

Rebuilt carburetors

Added a horn relay

Added correct air cleaner/intake manifold

Wired fog/spot lights

New correct chronometric instruments

Corrected door fit issues

New Firestone tires

Powdercoated wheels

All new rear suspension bushings

New stainless correct exhaust

Rebushed remote shifter mechanism

Rebushed pedal box

Treated body wood with preservative

Flushed brake system

The good: This car starts, runs, drives, shifts and stops perfectly. Very good chrome. Everything functions correctly, even the clock! Oil pressure at idle is about 50 PSI cold and 25 psi hot (1100 RPM). Oil pressure at speed is about 60 psi. Car runs at 85 C in hot weather. We alway run premium fuel and use 20W-50 high grade oil. Oil is changed every 1500 miles, just done. Transmission uses Redline MT-90 oil and has excellent feel. Synchos are good, clutch is good. We would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere but we do keep it under 65 mph. A few years ago we took it on an 800 mile trip with no issues. It is a very nimble and speedy example, and I’m told it has the best brakes and steering of any T-car. Doors close to 2nd stop and do not come open in any conditions.

There is a full tonneau cover and side curtains, full car cover and original owners manual.

The bad: the chrome finish on the top inside edge of the windscreen frame was not polished properly. The bonnet paint has some slight spots in the finish under certain light

The rear plastic window in the top is distorted. The MG badge on the steering wheel is crazed.

These cars all leak some oil and the underside shows evidence of this.

There are a few minor chips in the paint, but no rust.

The car is for sale locally as well. Shipping can be arranged at buyer’s expense. Please contact me with any questions during the bidding process. Reserve is set at $17900
