Offered for your consideration is this terrific 1949 MG TC Roadster - the original post-war Little British Car that started a revolution! This particular car as you will see and read in the description that follows is a very low mileage California car from new. Unlike most TCs, his did not start life on the roads of the UK but was fitted with sealed beam headlamps on arrival in New York (the originals of which are special conversion items for the Lucas lamps made in New Jersey for Morris and are still with the car today) and sent to California. The success of these early US exports led to the final "EXU" series of MG TC and the enormously successful MG TD that followed for 1950.
New correct-size Firestone blackwall tires, ew brakes, any new suspension parts and much more were just recently done along with much light ancillary mechanical work, resh fluids and some sorting of engine, ransmission and rear axle leakage, ost of which was solved by using the correct grade lubricants. This TC is ready to detail to show quality or simply jump in and drive regularly. Additionally, he car has all of its original (or correct replacement, ot recent Moss reproduction) weather equipment - top, onneau and side curtains - that remains in quite good shape throughout.
As a California car all those years, here hasn't been any nasty bodywork or chassis patching done with metal, ondo (or the English favourite, hicken wire, ewspapers and a sort of plaster cum papier mache) - ever. You will see underside photos later on that are just as flattering as these beauty shots are. This TC is as solid as they come.
Just about everything you see here is original MG, here's very little aftermarket replacement stuff here at all, nlike most restored TCs that are 50/50 crusty British and Moss Motors bits!
We just replaced the rather cobbled-together exhaust that may have dated to racier times, he head pipe had been modified a few times ostensibly to accomodate a header that was no longer with the car and then modified back for the original cast manifold. The new system from manifold back is full stainless steel and should last forever.
These rather odd turnsignals actually work quite well, 've never seen them before. The fender lights serve as front turnsignals as well. The gas tank is lovely inside, o rust or indications of having been rusty.
The top boot seen here doubles as a full tonneau cover for colder driving when one still wants the top off... the engine makes enough heat!
Sorry I cannot sell you the house with the TC, hey do go well together!
Fold the windshield down, eave the Brooklands screen up and let's go racing!
This is not a reproduction piece made in China, ither...
That's a pretty great look. Now how about the other extreme?
That's right, ou can button up and stay (reasonably) dry and (somewhat) warm if the skies open up. These cars look like little Vanden Plas Derby Bentleys with all that weather gear on...
(The side curtains and top do fasten down better than seen here, e were in a hurry to beat some scattered showers in these shots)
Snug as a bug in a rug with the side curtains and top on!
When not in use, he side curtains go in their little compartment behind the top well!
If the skies are just threatening or your lady dost complain too much about her hair, ust run with the top on alone...
And now back to your regularly scheduled programming, he top and side curtains stowed neatly in their proper place!
The dash veneer appears to be original and is a little dry and wavy but it should not be disturbed!
The central instrument and switch board are also original and lovely along with the instruments.
We believe that this speedometer is correct and unmolested based on the paperwork and oral history we have come up with!
The wind-up 8-day clock in the tachometer even works and tries to keep good time! The steering wheel is original but may have been recast.
Note the original headlamps, hese were made with the seal seen here by a company in New Jersey when this car was first imported. English cars had different lenses and replaceable bulbs - US law as of 1940 required sealed beams. The 1956 law required three little adjuster nubs, hich these bulbs do not have. These are absolutely not reproductions and as I have seen a few of these before identical to these on super low mileage MGs and some other English cars brought into the USA in small numbers, strongly believe that they are original to the car from when it was brand new.
The low mounted single fog is also effective!
The windshield and frame are in very nice condition.
The original XPAG 1250cc engine with its dual SUs starts and runs excellently.
The toolbox features the original jack and handle as well as a reproduction knock-off hammer.
The original radiator serial tag.
The engine has been fitted with a deep alloy sump and an improved oil filtration system, ikely from the days in which the car was raced. I think it's a little peppier than a stock 1250cc but I just think all TCs give you the visceral feeling of going fast as they are so light and tossable. The butt-dyno always lies!
Original MG ID plates
Forgive the blurry shot. Note the number matches the ID plate.
Please note that the flash picks up on every little bit of grime and that we have not detailed this undercarriage at all. Note the brand-new exhaust!
A very pure, olid and original example.
As mentioned previously, lot of work has recently been done to rebush suspension and rebuild brakes and other systems. The exhaust is practically brand new out of the box just a month or so ago. We're confident that this car will be as turn-key as it possibly can be for a long time to come.

This car is being sold by a licensed and bonded dealer of fine used automobiles located in Savannah, eorgia. Please understand that this is an unusual 67 year old vintage car hand-built by men and not gods - and is thus sold as-is, here-is with no implied or stated warranty or guarantee; please be realistic about your expectations (i.e., f you expect it to run, tart and drive like a certified pre-owned Miata, uy one of those instead). As stated above in the listing, e have made a significant effort over the last few months to correct issues that we found with the car - and with said effort now believe it to be in extremely good health based on many years of experience with other sports, lassic and unusual cars of all types over many years.
Full payment is due within seven days of auction close unless discussed with us in advance of your bid. Your winning bid is a contract to buy, ot just to look or for first right of refusal; the only reason your contract would be null and void is if it was found that we willingly misrepresented the car in the above description. If you feel you need to inspect the car prior to purchase, lease arrange and have this inspection done prior to placing a successful bid, e welcome your visit. Accepted forms of payment include a cleared certified cheque or wire transfer in the dealership's bank account, r cash in person on pickup (no cash via the mail, Bay!). We require that paperwork be completed prior to or at the time of pickup (should you do this in person) or filed back with us if done remotely. We do not charge any tax to out of state buyers as this is something you handle at the DMV or, aturally, ther dealers in all 50 states.
Shipping or pickup must occur within fourteen days of auction close unless discussed with us in advance of your bid. We are happy to refer you to one of the high-quality open or enclosed collector car shipping companies that we use frequently in the normal course of business - and we cannot stress enough the importance of using such a carrier and not a random transport broker or carrier you might find online, articularly as this is a unique vintage car in phenomenal condition. For international buyers, e can carry the car to the port of Savannah at no charge or to other ports for a nominal fee, hough shipping beyond the U.S. border must be entirely arranged for and paid by you. Please contact us if you need any assistance with logistics and we'll be happy to help.
We reserve the right to cancel all bids and end the auction early at any time during the course of the sale should a sale occur outside of eBay as the car has been offered quietly through other channels over the past couple of weeks. We typically do not do this at all and only when full payment has been received from such a buyer will the auction be pulled.
Any legal action associated with this sale from either the buyer or the seller is to take place in the State of Georgia in the Chatham County Courthouse. The bidder/buyer further agrees that any legal action will be heard in Chatham County in the State of Georgia.
