Description:

1988 Mercury Cougar XR7

What you see here is a 1988 Mercury Cougar XR7. The “XR7” was essentially the performance oriented package for these cars back then. They came with a non-high output 302 (5.0L) v8, and the automatic referred to as an AOD. The car did also have an 8.8” differential from the factory.

Details about the car-

****The sale is for the car WITHOUT the supercharger kit. So, you are purchasing the car as a turn key, driving 351w NA combo. The supercharger is an additional $6k.

Full build has less than 1,000 miles

The engine is now a roller block 351w that has been bored .020 over. It’s a stock crank, rod, with hyper flat top pistons. The block was decked, and the rings have been gapped for boost. The machine work was done by “Crankshaft Grinders”, in Salt Lake City.

It has iron factory GT40 heads, that have been milled, it has trickflow valve springs, and a Summit racing f-303+ cam (224/232 114 LSA, .550/.540 lift), ford racing lifters, cloytes timing set, ARP oil pump shaft, mellings pump, clevite bearings. The rotating assembly was balanced.

The car is currently running a factory A9P MAF computer out of a mustang. It has a 90mm Pro-M MAF, calibrated for the 42# injectors. Early combo ran a lighting lower and explorer upper, but it’s now a trickflow R intake. 75MM TB, BBK swap headers, off-roadH-pipe. Currently AC was deleted, but the bracket and compressor are available.

The transmission is a B&M AOD, that was then rebuild with new frictions.

The differential now is a new-edge mustang 8.8” with 3.27 gears, and disc brakes.

The car has KYB adjustable shocks and struts, as well as Max Motorsports Caster/Camber plates. “23parts.com” subframe connectors not installed, but included.

The front spindles are from a 1994-1995 Mustang (5-lug conversion) with Cobra 13” rotors and 2-piston calipers.

Factory genuine OE Mach 1 wheels, and brand new tires (all season).

The paint is shot, has some surface rust, the car is originally from Washington, and the undercarriage is essentially spotless.

The body has the usually (daily use vehicle) dings, and scatches.

Clean Utah title in my name.
