| Wow,,, Incredible 1978 Mercury Cougar XR7 "Midnight Chamois" edition. 45,064 actual miles. Built February 16, 1978. The original owner purchased it off the showroom floor at Northeast Lincoln Mercury in Hurst, Texas because it "knocked her socks off!" Lovingly cared for, garaged and used on special occasions ever since. Still has the original Texas title dated 03/16/78. XR7 is the luxurious and exciting extension of the spirited and untamed Cougar personality. The Midnight Chamois Decor Option is purepoetry in motion, with its unique half vinyl roof with cross-over strap, the added distinction of padded "Continental" type rear deck, deep, supportive bucket seats of midnight blue with chamois colored inserts, vinyl side facings and formed brightbuckles. A striking motif complimented by the convenient console and plush Tiffany carpeting. Car is all original with the exception of an incredible repaint at some time - actually looks better than factory in my opinion; there is absolutely no overspray anywhere. Body panels match up perfectly. Chrome glistens, glass is all the original Carlite stamped; windshield has no wiper scratches or rock chips. There is no sun damage to the dash, vinyl top, package tray. Crisp display panel surfaces, no cracks/wear on seats or armrests, no stains or odors. Weatherstripping is soft and supple. No rust, of course, as the car has spent its entire life in North Texas. Outstanding 351 engine compartment: the plug wires are date coded 1978, even the battery cables are original. Always starts right up, choke engagesproperly. Air conditioning looks to have been converted to the newer freon at some time. New Cooper raised white letter tires from Summit Racing on the factory Styled Road Wheels. Everything on the car functions properly. Rides and handles excellent - no mysterious shakes, shimmies, rattles; tracks true and straight. Be sure to watch the drive video. Marti Report documenting accessories such as: Power Windows & Door Locks, Tilt Wheel, Cruise Control, Air Conditioning, 6-way Power Seat, AM-FM, Deluxe Seat Belts, Illuminated Entry System, Day/Date Clock, Midnight/Chamois Decor Group, Remote Control Color Keyed Racing Mirrors, Tinted Glass, Rocker Panel Moldings.Similar to the Lincoln Mark V and Ford Thunderbird Designer Series available throughout the 70's.
