Only 12 CJ Cyclones were produced in Raven Black with Red Bucket Seats. The silver hood stripe and hood scoop were factory and really set this car off. If you are looking for a RARE and UNIQUE Muscle Car, you really need to read on and consider this car.We purchased this car from the estate sale of the 2nd owner who purchased the car in 1970 as a 6 month old car. The car was restored by his community as a type of 'Make a Wish' program. The owner was able to drive the car one last time as a completed car just before passing. The original owner was shipped off to Vietnam and sadly his parents had to bring the car back to the dealership. The paperwork from the dealership is included with the car. This car hails from Montana where the climate is dry and Muscle Cars hibernate in their garages until warmer months free them from their climate controlled slumber. This Cyclone is wearing its original metal including quarters, floors, frame rails, aprons, etc. The Raven Black paint is very nice with a deep gloss on very straight panels. The body lines up exceptionally well. The chrome and bright trim is in good condition making this one easily nice enough for shows and sunny day cruising. The interior was restored as part of the process and is quite nice. The fit and finish are quite nice. These are the factory seats that were upholstered in fabric as part of the restoration. They are quite comfortable with nice seat cushions. The door panels are originals as is the dash pad so they do show some age but present nicely. The 428 Cobra Jet fires up easily and runs excellent. It has the correct C8OE-N cylinder heads and Cobra Jet specific exhaust manifolds. It has just a hint of a lope to the idle. Just a tickle on the gas pedal has the car up to speed. Dig a bit deeper and those 428 Cubic Inches make themselves known with a good nudge back in the seat. The rebuild history was not included on the engine and unfortunately any history on the motor was lost with the passing of the former owner. The C6 appears to be the correct original unit with the Cobra Jet specific Cast Iron Tailhousing. The transmission feels stock as the shifts come in at the correct RPM's but do not hit hard.Being a 428 CJ car it could have only come with a heavy duty Nodular Case 9" Differential and 31 Spline Axles. This assembly was factory equipped with 3.50 Ratio gearing and a limited slip (Trac-Lock). Upon inspection the 3rd member appears correct with the 'N' casting on the housing. The axles appear to be correct with the tell-tale double drilled axles denoting the 31 spline axles. The wheels are 14" Mercury Styled Steel Wheels. This Cyclone was not optioned that way but the purchase paperwork from 1970 denotes that wheels were to be replaced at the dealership from another Mercury they had in stock. So the car now looks like it probably did on the way home from the dealership back in 1970.This car has a very great story and an incredible pedigree. There were only 12 Cyclones produced that looked like this car. It really is a shame too because this is a very striking and tastefully executed look that Mercury somehow slipped under the radar. For Transportation we recommend Mike's Discount Auto Transport. They offer the best customer service and pricing in the industry.Call them for a quote at (888) 671-9285
