We bought this car from an estate sale a year ago. The fellow who owned it had built it as his personal driver then fell sick and it was parked for many years until his death when we bought it from his estate. It had set so long that the fuel had completely ruined the fuel tank and sending unit.We replaced the tank with a new one as well as the sending unit,flushed the lines and it fired right up and runs great. He must have somehow drained the carburetor because so far it shows no signs of bad fuel being left in it. We put real gasoline ( no government corn )in it and put it in storage to repaint and finish later. Well it has been a year, we just opened our own business and I don't see getting to it anytime soon so here it is listed for sale.This car is very solid, unbelievably so for a convertible this old, the top is like new, the interior has been completely redone in the correct covers,new weatherstriping. According to his family he had completely rebuilt the engine, and front suspension and resealed the 4 speed transmission. The bumpers and the trim are in excellent shape,just dirty. All glass is excellent. The engine is a 390 GT with the 14 bolt hole exhaust manifolds, it has a lot of chrome on it including a chrome FE intake manifold. The exhaust is in great shape as well. Now for the BAD!The paint has not aged well, it was originally Calypso Coral (orange) and was repainted a black metallic color. The paint job wasn't that great and has crazed and pealed in places, as if it was put on way to thick.The power windows need to be adjusted, they don't stop in the right positions and can overlap a little. They have not damaged themselves or anything else yet.
The car is a rare 4-speed convertible Mercury, it is in really great shape for it's age. It is really solid. This is not a "got to sell it" situation so please no low ball calls.
