1956 Mercury Other Phaeton
1956 Mercury Medalist Phaeton hard top sedan. This is a project I have owned for over 20 years and am ready to let her go. The last shop that was doing some mechanical and paint work was foreclosed upon and all the cars were impounded. As I have a title for the car I was able to get her back without any issues, some of the other owners were not as lucky. With that said, he left a lot of things unfinished, and as this is the 3rd time I have had something like this happen with this car, I have decided to sell. The following is a list of what has been done, and what still needs to be done.Items that have been replaced/repaired (in approximate order from most recent to oldest):-Full fuel system clean, carb gone through, gas tank sealed (just done, she is actually still at the shop that completed the work)-Replace rear window seal, just done.-Replace air pump for air ride system, just done.-Check wiring on air ride system, fix issues, just done.-Full tune up to get her back in a running condition, just done (however a previously unknown mechanical issue was discovered, will discuss later).-Check break system and found to be in good working order with almost 100% left on pads, just done.-Install after market carb, approx 2 years ago.-Install dual exhaust with chrome tips, from heads back, approx 3 years ago.-Install full air ride system, all four corners, with switches for each corner, front/back, approx 3 years ago.-Rewire entire car, approx 4 years ago.-Replace rear main seal on transmission, approx 4 years ago.-Replace front windshield and seal, approx 4 years ago.-Install break booster from 67 mustang, approx 10 years ago.-Fully detail engine, chrome some parts, powder coat others, approx 10 years ago.-Install electric fan, approx 10 years ago.-Install alternator, approx 10 years ago.-Replace all lenses (tail light, turn signal, and back up lights).-Original paint and body work, re-chrome bumpers, redo interior, full undercoat of frame, rebuild engine and transmission, approx 20 years ago. This was right after we purchased the car out in California, where it had been up until that point. Was built in Los Angeles and purchased in the high desert outside of LA. After that it spent 17 years in New Mexico, garage stored and only driven a handful of times, then moved to TX 3 years ago. With that said she has NO rust (aside from very minor surface rust, in pics) and very few miles since major work was performed 20 years ago. However, as mentioned previously there are some issues that were caused by the last shop she was at, and the mechanical issue that just came to light. The list follows:-Cylinder 7 is dead, no compression. She starts right up, runs, idles, and drives as is, but this is an issue that needs to be fixed. The drive train is original, 312 y-block with Merc-O-Matic full automatic transmission (1st year I believe).-She is half sanded right now as is evident in the pictures. Last pic is BEFORE she went into the shop and sustained damage.-Interior was taken apart, for an unknown reason, and is now in the trunk. I have all interior trim pieces, original hubcaps, interior badges, lettering for front bumper, extra beauty rings, hoods for head lights, bezels, and extra trim for the roof. I also have what I believe is the original carb as well. With all that said she is a great foundation for a fun cruising car, but will take work to get there. You may call the shop and ask questions if you like, 210-308-7424. The reserve is set low, just to cover the cost of the fuel system clean/seal, engine and air ride work just done. Happy bidding!
