Description:

1968 Mercury Cougar XR-7

Please Read All of this Listing if you are REALLY Interested before you ask questions - sorry, but I think I have responded to many questions that are answered below - PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION BEFORE YOU ASK.

Up for Auction For the Last Time (Auction with no Reserve - High Bidder owns this car) isa USED 1968 Mercury COUGAR XR-7 2 door coupe - Red Exterior with white vinyl top and Red Interior. This car starts, runs, drives, stops as it sits. I occasionally drive this car, but not enough. I bought this car a few years ago (I believe it was in 2014) thinking I would drive it and tinker with it as needed - I just never seem to find the time. Need to thin the herd - no sense having this just sit in storage collecting dust. This car has been stored inside since I bought it. No Refunds, No Returns.

This car is a 1968 XR-7 with a 302 cu. in. V-8 engine and an automatic transmission with a center console mounted floor "T" Handle shifter with bucket seats, power steering and power brakes. Miles shown on the Odometer are 37,509 miles, which, considering the condition of the interior, may be the true, original miles - but I have no way to confirm this - may be 137,500, I just don't know for sure. If I remember correctly the odometer was working the last time I drove this car. Exterior of this car is very straight with faded red paint on the top-sides of the car. This is a vinyl roof car - please see the pics - there are some "pimples" under the vinyl in various spot under the vinyl top. I am told these are small rust / scale spots - I have no plans to remove the vinyl top to investigate since this could just turn into a project that I have no plans to get involved with at this time. Car has factory Air Conditioning (which worked the last time I tried it but probably needs a charge), also has original "Cougar" radio which I believe also includes a cassette player, a low center mounted clock and overhead console. Red interior is in very nice shape considering the age of this vehicle - remember this car is almost 50 years old. Interior includes red vinyl seats, red carpeting and the wood-grain dash (a decal, I believe). Interior does need a new dash pad and maybe a recover of the top of the back seat - probably due to sun damage, but if you wanted to keep it as original as possible, that might be all the interior needs. Windows are manual windows and I believe all window regulators worked the last time I used them, although the driver's window was difficult to roll up and down, but it did work. Front headlights are the hide-away style lights and the headlight doors still work - a little slow, but they work. The tail lights are the sequential signal lights and these also still work.

This car does run & drive. I have driven this car around my area to just enjoy it, just don't drive it enough. Have probably driven this car on short local trips of 60 miles round-trip or less. Tires are the same tires that were on it when I bought it - probably should be replaced before you plan to drive it any longer distances. Since it has been sitting off and on for the last few years, I would also suggest a thorough tune-up and inspection. I would suggest you plan to trailer this car home after purchase - unless you just happen to be local to Tulsa, Oklahoma.

I have a clean, clear, current, title and Oklahoma Tag/License in my name. Just added a pic of the Warranty Tag on the side of the driver's door - see pics above. Information on the tag includes VIN # (see number listed elsewhere in this listing), Body Code: 65B - 2 dr Hardtop XR-7, Color: T - Red, Trim: 8D - Red 6 (Vinyl), Date: 14B - February (2/14/1968), D.S.O.: 22 - Dallas, Axle (ratio): 5 - 3.00:1, Trans: W - C-4 Automatic XP3 and Made in USA. Found this info online - I believe it is correct, but don't know for sure.

Bought this car from a local guy that bought it from what I believe was the original owner - I believe, but have no way to know for sure. The original owner (I was told) was also a local older gentleman who used this car to get around and stored it at his house under a car port - this is the reason I believe this car has faded paint on the top side.

High bidder is required to pay a non-refundable $500 deposit at close of the auction thru PayPal, the remaining balance due of the high bid total will be due within 5 days of close of auction. Vehicle must be picked-up within 10 days of close of the auction unless PRIOR Arrangements are discussed and agreed to by both parties (buyer & seller). This is the second and possibly the last time I will list this car on e-Bay for some time. Car is also for sale locally, so, if you are really interested, please bid before the close of this auction. If I receive a decent offer locally I will end this auction. The last time I listed this car, I received some questions that I responded to and thought I had clicked the box to include them in the listing, but I don't see them below, so I will add them here for all to see: 1. Any headliner issues? - I don't remember any - actually, I do remember being surprised at how nice the headliner was when I first drove and purchased this car, considering the age of the car, I would consider the headliner to be in excellent condition, 2. Do the gauges work? The best I can remember, all gauges worked, including the fuel gauge, 3. Any engine/transmission leaks? I don't know for sure, probably some smaller leaks, but nothing major. I have had a few cars in this storage garage over the years, can't honestly say which one(s) leaked or didn't, but again, just due to the age of this car, I won't be surprised if it did have a leak or two here and there - this car has not been restored - that I know of, 4. AC work? I thought I had made a note about that somewhere else in this listing - but in case I didn't, the AC did work the last time I tried it, although that was a while ago - probably needs a charge, may need more than that, 5. Dealer or Private Seller? I am selling my own car, not a dealer, I am a private seller, 6. Condition under the car? I would consider the under side of this car to be in excellent condition, again, considering the age of this vehicle. There isn't any undercoating that I saw, so there is some surface rust, but I don't remember seeing any rot, see the last few pics for some under car pics, 7. Can someone come to take a look or send someone to look/appraise the car? Sure, with some advance notice - at least a few hours - since the car is locked in my storage garage - I will need to move some things around to get the car out into the daylight for someone to really see it and get all around it, 8. Car seems to sit high in the rear - is there a trailer hitch installed or have the rear shocks frozen up? I don't see any trailer hitch - please see pics above. As for the rear shocks being frozen, they are not, 9. Phone Number to call? (I'm going to list a number - if I start getting flooded with calls - especially after hours, I will shut off the phone. Please respect the time - I'm in the Tulsa, Oklahoma, Area - which is Central Time Zone - PLEASE - NO CALLS BEFORE 8am or AFTER 9pm Central Time. Also, calls will be "on your dime" - I will not call you back, you will need to call back if I don't answer or I'm on another call with someone else) 918-625-9650

Update 12/23: Had a couple Cougar Guys stop by to check out the car this afternoon. They gave me a little education on this car, that I will share with all looking at this listing; 1. the vinyl top does have rust under it, they found at least one area out near the middle of the top that was "soft", 2. This car was repaired at some time in its life, probably within the first 6 years of ownership since the front passenger fender has been replaced with a numbered replacement fender, 3. the right rear fender area has some repair with some bondo, 4. there is some rust in the driver's side wheel well (back side of wheel well) and a few small spots on the front horns under the hood, but the front towers are in good condition, 5. The XR-7 Steering wheel is in great condition, 6. some light rust in the trunk area (surface rust, I believe), 7. Interior is in great condition, other than dash pad, 8. Car is equipped with a swing-away steering column, 9. Shocks are older but not frozen, 10. Air conditioning compressor is probably not the Mercury original compressor, but is period correct, 11. I do not have a Martini Report for this car, 12. headlight doors, headlights and headlight mechanisms look good and work slowly, but they do work. I'm sure there was more discussed, but these are the things I remember. Thanks for the local Cougar folks for the education. If you are really interested, please plan to check it out yourself or have someone check it out for you. I will not give this car away - if I don't get a reasonable price for the car, I will just keep it and drive it myself - I do like this car, just have other projects I would like to work first. I have lowered the price of this vehicle due to the above issues, I believe this is a fair price considering the Classic NADA Prices I pulled up recently - starting at a low sale price of over $14,000 and going up from there. Even with a roof repair, this is a fair price for a running and driving classic car.

Thanks for Looking.
