1967 Mercury Cougar

A great cougar! Terrific color combination with all the right options, nverness Green with saddle interior. No vinyl top and no 68 side markers makes the 67 cougar’s clean profile my favorite car design. Options include the XR-7 package, code 4bbl 289 with a C4 automatic rebuilt as well just last year. Power steering, ower disc brakes, nd working air conditioning round out the factory options on this classic cougar.

I searched for several years to find this car with all the right options and color combination. I have enjoyed this car for the last 3 years, ut it is time for it to find a new home. I purchased a 1970 428CJ Eliminator last year and there is not room or time to enjoy them all so this one must find a new cougar lover to enjoy her. This car underwent a considerable restoration in the 90s while in Texas. A prior owner left documentation of a $20,000 restoration, considerable sum for a restoration 20 years ago. I purchased the car from a collector in Virginia who owned it for 10 years and was thinning his herd.

Currently the car is running a 500 cfm Edelbrock carburetor. I find it delivers a noticeable performance improvement over the autolite 4100 as well as better cold weather starting for my taste. I have the correct original autolite as well. The new owner can chose which one to drive home with. I am happy to switch it back.

The engine is rebuilt to stock specifications. It runs smooth and pulls strong, ut has no hot cam or other performance modifications. I had the transmission rebuilt last year, ound the reverse band had snapped.

The car has some tasteful suspension modifications that make it much more drivable. A 1 inch front sway bar, ” drop front springs, YB shocks, nd an export brace give the front end a stability that cannot be beat and without a harsh ride. When viewing the video, atch how little sway the car displays driving up and down the winding mountain road (starting after minute 18 in the video).

Last summer I had the transmission rebuilt. This year I replaced the brake booster with a new, ot rebuilt, cott Drake unit. I changed the carb this year while tracking down an irregular idle that I thought was a vacuum leak. Turned out to be a broken spark plug wire. The power steering pressure hose touched the exhaust manifold last month and melted. A new hose is now installed. The car is well maintained, ell cared for and ready to drive.

The paint is fair. It maintains a great shine. See the video and pictures for details. It looks great driving around town and gets thumbs ups, omplements, nd questions all day long. You will be proud to take this car to your local cruise in and shows. It is not however, oncours show quality. There are a few small bubbles developing in typical places. When it was restored, ome filler was used in the door bottoms and in front of the rear wheel housings. The underside is in excellent condition.

I have over 100 detailed photos in this slideshow. Contact me for the link to the actual pictures to see in higher resolution. Ebay does not allow direct links in listings.

It was bypassed prior to my ownership. I do not drive the car if it is cold enough to need heat so I did not undertake this repair. The gas tank and sending unit were replaced during restoration. So the sending unit is not a low fuel light unit.

Overall this is a terrific car. I love it, nd I hate to part with it. But I have too many cars and it is time for this one to find a new home. This cougar bests represents the “untamed elegance” that Mercury was striving for in 1967. This loaded XR-7 with a small block is a pleasure to drive. The small block is not a race engine, ut it goes quickly in style. The body is in good shape to attract well deserved attention all day long, ut it has enough imperfection that you are not afraid to drive it regularly. I have owned cougars for the last 20 years and this one is one of my favorites. If you are a cougar fan you will love and appreciate this car for all that it is. If you have not experienced a 67 cougar before just come and check this car out. You will leave impressed.

New York State does not issue titles for cars built prior to 1973. The car comes with a valid, ransferable registration in my name as proof of ownership and a bill of sale for the ebay sale price will be provided.

Please respect that placing a bid is a bid to own, ot an opportunity to inspect. Ask questions early. I encourage the owner to inspect the car in person prior to auction end.
