SL450 - An all-original survivor and a driver - Revitalized and back on the road
1976 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class
Delivered on August 5, 1976 at Stephen's Imports in New Orleans, LA, this 450SL spent most of it's driving life in the south. It was put up for storage in a garage for 20 years, when I bought in late 2020 it to revitalize it and make it a solid driver. This car has never seen snow.Since purchasing the following was replaced: New radiator, new starter, new sway bar links, new Sonnendeck soft top with cables and weather stripping, complete new exhaust and resonator, new fuel pickup, and new battery. Recent service (mostly at Precision Motor Cars in Cincinnati) includes new plugs, new wires, new vacuum lines, set lambda, set dwell and timing, and power steering service.This is now a solid driver, runs smooth and shifts smooth as well. The shop calls it a happy little 450! The paint is in great shape for an older respray, and there is almost no rust anywhere. This is a car to take out and drive, not just admire.Work to do includes replacing passenger seat belt (included), freeing up emergency brake, adjust steering play, re-secure left door pull, replace shifter bushings (sloppy shifter), re-attach some HVAC controls, and replace fan clutch. Center console needs to be refinished and the dashpad cover needs to be updated. Tires are low miles with no dry rot, but are older.Car includes hardtop (rear window needs replacement) with rolling stand and cover, Euro-style headlamps, as well as miscellaneous extra hardware. Original manual, shipping paperwork, data card, and metal owner's plate included.
