1978 mercedes-benz 450slc coupe, no reserve
1978 Mercedes-Benz 400-Series
This is a white with red interior 1978 Mercedes 450SLC. The mileage shown is 83xxx which I believe to be correct. There is no reserve; the high bidder takes it.
I've had it a little over a year. It was originally sold new in Lubbock, Texas, and I believe its been a Texas car all its life. There is no rust that I've seen.
It apparently sat some before I got it. Since I've had it I changed the oil, replaced the shocks (new Bilsteins), replaced the rear sway bar links, and generally gave it some love. It starts right up, has good oil pressure, never gets hot, and overall runs good.
There is a bit of a rough idle when hot that has gotten better with use but it is still there. I'd like to think with more use it will continue to improve.
The tires are a matched set of Michelins. They have plenty of tread but have a date code from 2012 and some age cracks.
The AC is not working. I have not investigated this. The heat works. The OEM Hirshman power antenna doesn't fully retract. The passenger side windows were not working when I got it. I cleaned up the switch and all was well however when I drove it the other day they were not working. I assume this is a switch issue but am not certain.
All lights and the power sun roof are working. The turn signal doesn't cancel as it should when turning left.
The back seat has a split in the leather as shown. The dash pad is cracked as shown with evidence of a previous dash cover. The original carpets are all there and are in good shape.
There are the three original keys; two regular keys and one valet key. In addition the drivers side door handle has a separate key.
The car has had some paint work in its past. There is some paint checking on the hood as shown and some paint crazing on the hood and fender as well. There is also some evidence of paint work on the deck lid and a portion of the rear quarter. I don't see any evidence of any collision repair so I don't know what the story is. There are also few paint touch ups on the passenger side that don't match perfectly. The windshield has a small rock chip. The paint on the window louvers on one side is peeling as shown.
With all this said, all in all, it looks good from ten feet but is not a show car and I believe it to be a good running and driving car.
There is a Texas title in my name. $500 deposit via Paypal within 24 hours of the end of the auction with the rest to be paid when picked up (or before if you are using a shipper). Unless other arrangements are made must be picked up within two weeks of the auction end.
Thanks for looking and any other questions please let me know.
