1963 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class

I AM HITTING 85 YEARS OLD AND TIME HAS TAKEN ITS TOLL ON MY BACK... I have a difficult time bending over and getting into sports cars.
I purchased this automobile in February 2002 from an Import Car dealer after it supposedly had an $80,000 restoration by well-known Mercedes Benz Sports Leicht company in Southern Pines NC.The dealer also sent me a copy of the cost of the car from several years prior being 09/03/1997 which was when it was sold by Dearborn Automobile Co to a Cal Huge for $24,000 needing a full restoration.It was being sold according to the dealer because the owner that he was representing was terminally ill.
When I received the car I had a new top installed by Gary Maucher Upholstery who did Pebble Beach cars.I enjoyed driving it since it was so easy to handle and it became the 'Baby brother" to my former 300 SL Roadster.
I had taken it to just one Concours where it won a Major Award and then lent it to my personal friend and physician to use over the spring and summers going to his Golf Club with his 'Lady" by his side for many years.
The car was maintained by an excellent foreign mechanic who takes care of my collection. As the years went by I used it less and less driving my classic Rolls Royce's to events around the country and doing very well.
I was asked to present this gorgeous car at the Greenwich Concours in 2023 but the convertible top was no longer show quality. I had the car totally detailed for this event over a seven week period from the bottom of the chassis to the engine compartment to having a new GAHH top installed with all the trimmings that go on the frame and brackets.On top of that I had new green brake pads installed since I was having a friend drive it there (250 miles up and back) and show it for me but he got sick so I had it shipped and presented the car myself.
It is truly a lovely car that you can both show it proudly and drive it anywhere with confidence.I am told that this is one of only 54 1963s that came into the country.
