Selling not because I want to, but I'm moving and need a house, so...This is a gray market W123 Mercedes 280E (I believe it's an 83 model year based on build date (Dec 1982) with tons of maintenance and a whole new top end. Starts immediately, drives great, runs smooth, and stops well. All work done with or under the guidance of SoCal MB guru Jonathan White.
Cold start: https://youtu.be/uqluB0W611AWarm running: https://youtu.be/7vIy7Mqgzc0
The Good:All new electronics (plugs, wires, alternator, coil, battery)Nearly all new fuel system (pump, filter, lines, cleaned and tested injectors, WUR)Rebuilt head by Motor Works (new valves, springs, seats, etc)New water pumpElectric radiator fanSteering and front suspension refresh (ball joints, arms, bushings)New driveshaft flex disks (front and back)Interior is clean and beautifulSunroof serviced and lubedNew rear tail light lensesTons of paperwork
The Bad:Paint - The roof needs to be repainted and has a couple dings - one in the hood and another on the passenger-rear wheel well. Obvious repaint in lower corners of the rear window for rust correction. Rust repair is good, the paint repair - not so much.Beltline trim needs replacing.Rear bumper dent.Warm Starts - It needs a new fuel accumulator (the only part of the fuel system I didn't replace). Warm starts just need you to step on the pedal until it starts.Turn signal doesn't click back after turning.Passenger c-pillar vinyl is separating.AC is not connected but the Sanden unit spins and doesn't bind.Cruise control works intermittently.Odometer has the slipping gear issue. I've repaired it once but it didn't last long.Dash is cracked but covered w/ a dash carpet. You cannot register this in CA as it won't pass smog. Currently registered in Vermont.
Other odds and ends:I'm a huge Formula 1 fan and got Mercedes race-winner Valtteri Bottas to sign the glovebox at the 2019 Hollywood event (he got pole and won @ COTA that weekend, too!)Plenty of spare parts - I bought new rotors and brake pads but found I needed to rebuild the front calipers instead. Also have an extra front caliper, original steering wheel, Becker radio (swapped this out for bluetooth), old taillight lenses, magnetic clutch fan, and US headlights with yellow fogs (one mount tab is broken). It's got a couple old-car issues but as far as anything mechanically or drive-related, you'll be hard-pressed to find a 280E, let alone a Euro with this color combo at all, and not in this good of condition. I wouldn't be selling if I wasn't moving out of CA and buying a house, but sometimes being an adult sucks.
Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to help.
Thanks for looking!
